Cheshire is serious about this. Really.
This is hilarious but and yes.. have to admit.. getting sad.

kmanrox 07-31-2002 10:35 PM

hey Chris Orie, someone's watching you =)

Cheshire 07-31-2002 10:36 PM

thanks guys ~ I don't think you wasted *any* posts :)

and mrthumbs ~ I know what an email header is, thanks. First thing I did when you said my name was to send myself an email, even before I made that first response asking how you knew my name.

My name does not appear in the header. Not for me, not for my friends whom I have since emailed inquiring on my header information.

Pornwolf 07-31-2002 10:37 PM

If that e-mail thing is true you are off the hook. You are still a 'slapnutz' for doing this though. You just don't play with women like that on or off the board.

With a picture, you can (probably) recognize someone if you bump into them. That means she can't keep herself a total secret.

With a full name, you can track someone down. Find their house, whatever. That means she isn't *safe*.

See the difference? It all depends on what you want the privacy for.

i don't think Cheeshire has to worry about this dope spreading her address across the web... and if a webmaster from here wants her address just go to where ever adult.coms office is and stake her out :)

It's no full name and she is giving it out hersellf just
like you do with the name 'gothweb'.. do you get my
point?

That's all there is.. i dont need to explain you why
your name is Gothweb and how i know.. right?

And if you do require me to give that information do
you think it's strange i consider it as a joke?!

Cheshire -- You are 100% in the right here. I would seriously consider pressing charges. This is one creepy man. The category for people like him who can't *see* what is wrong with what he did has a name... I think he fits the bill of both sociopath and psychopath perfectly.

Let me see if I am tracking this correctly. Cheshire sends mrthumbs an E-mail with her name in the E-mail (this is what he has stated) and she gets upset that he knows her name and accuses him of being a stalker, and gets called a psychopath by gothweb.

She denies that her name is in the E-mail, so one of the two is lying or stupid, or both, but if it is in the E-mail what does this tell you?

Cheshire 07-31-2002 10:49 PM

If my name is being stamped on my emails I would like to know ~ instead of having someone act like he knows personal information about me and is not going to tell me how he knows it.

I doubt it man. She said her name once, verbally to me... I thought I knew what it was until tonight when she typed it to me. I've NEVER heard of this name before. Very unique...

The problem isn't *that* you found it. It is how you acted. Your finding it clearly distressed her. At that point, you had a choice how to act. You chose the creepy path. How are you not getting that part?

No ~ I asked him three times, each time more vehemently than the last how he knew my name.
He repeatedly refused to tell me, hinting that he had ways of finding out information about me. The last email he sent he expressed his opinion that I don't have privacy if my picture is up on a chatboard.

Then why do models use different names? Even first names? Porn stars do also. It's for various reasons.

As a webmaster, we give up a shitload of privacy. You could find almost anything you want about me with a quick search. Cheshire isn't a webmaster. She's an employee of an Internet company. The same rules do not apply.

Mr Thumbs, you did something extremely child like tonight (or should I say this afternoon in your time). Only kids who have never seen any parts of an ass or touched a tit would do something like that. She might not have known her name was in her e-mail address but that didn't give you the right to act like you knew stuff about her that was private. That is a very uncomfortable feeling.

It's time for you to change your screen name and try again kid cause your name and respect from us is trashed.

Cheshire 07-31-2002 11:02 PM

And at what point could you have told me where you found my name???

Your mistake was being so underhanded with me ~ you should have been upfront.

Jak 07-31-2002 11:04 PM

Here's how I see it...

Sometimes us geeks get all thinking that acting mysterious to a woman (in terms of geeky info, etc.) in some way will impress her. Hell I used to be that way (granted it was when I was 16, but well who knows how old this Mr. Thumbs guy is?)

Anyway, I think Mr. Thumbs had a little crush on Chesire, and tried to impress her with some "mystery" shit that just didn't go down right. Now his crush has been dragged out into the public eye, and there's really not going to be a resolution.

Who here hasn't ever done or said something completely off the hook while trying to impress a woman, and then ended up feeling like a total putz after doing it? Let the geek who is without sin cast the first stone.

Chesire, I know you feel violated. I would too. But... the guy has a crush on you, it's obvious. If your info was in the email then it's no more than a crush with some stupid mystery played in that went the wrong way.

If your info isn't in the email, then Mr. Thumbs, I'd suggest leaving the poor girl alone and immediately get out of the house, go to your local bar, get a few drinks in you, and learn how to pick up a woman, sans the stalking shit. :1orglaugh

gothweb 07-31-2002 11:06 PM

I get the feeling that people are thinking... "this wouldn't upset me" or "it doesn't make sense for her to be upset" and think that it decides the issue. The truth of the matter is, she *was* upset. And he knew it. And he harassed her.

What is the problem in seeing that part of it? Okay, assume the least generous case for Cheshire for a moment. Presume she just screwed up and her name really is in her headers. Further presume that she *should* have seen it. Fine. Now we get to the point where she was surprised about him knowing her name. Just take that simple fact, followed by the fact that it upset her. When he saw this, he had the choice to set things straight, and educate her about the privacy breach. He did not. He played.

Isn't is easy to see how insensitive and creepy he was?

Let's take this a step further. Assuming he just didn't understand how much he had freaked her out. It might happen. However, she persistently explained it to him, and asked for more information. At some point, he had all the information to know how upset she was, and what he could do to help it. However, he did not use that information... He continued to argue with her about it.

Worst case scenario and Cheshire is still right. And I am guessing that worst case is a long ways from the truth. We have here a very simple case of creepy guy.

And remember. It is her information. It isn't up to anyone but her to decide how private she wants it kept, and at what level it scares her for people to know it. Explaining why she "shouldn't" be upset doesn't somehow make MrThumbs right.
