Hire someone with a track record and not "the flavor of the month" or the guy begging to do the work for 1/10 the actual value of the project (and who is always available immediately) and this will greatly reduce, if not eliminate, your problem.
A reputable designer will not overbook themself. A reputable designer is RARELY, if ever, available "RIGHT NOW." A reputable designer will accomodate all your ideas, pay close attention to your notes and never flake on a project. Seems to me you're not hiring reputable designers ![]() |

there's a lot of threads on the board lately about how crap designers are, as if we all fall into the same category ... but since i've started taking on new design clients i'm feeling very much the same way about many of them!!
I designed a series of logos the other week for a client, plus 2 mockups ... I sent these through within 48 hours, only to be told they had already got a logo (which looked like it was designed by a child) that their in house designer had done. (wtf? why ask for mockups then? to steal ideas!) they then wanted me to work this logo into the mockups I had done because they liked my style, so it was a really nice clean design with a logo stuck over the top that didn't match at all. After several days of going back and forward with 2 people (who couldn't decide who was running the show) I said I would not be doing any more work for them. Since then their logo has changed several times and the site is still not live ... & I'm sure they are convinced I'm the unreliable one because I told them I would not continue working for them. Communication goes both ways ... if your designer doesn't ask you any questions at all, that's not a good start. Even if I'm provided with clear notes, I ask the client to confirm I have understood their request before proceeding with work. I broke my own rule when designing the logo for the above mentioned client because I have known them for several years and thought it would be ok ... I can totally understand your frustration, and I hope you find a few designers that you can work with regularly. It helps when someone understands your slang and brainfarts ;-) |
