Kids these days!

I was walking out of Safeway 30 minutes ago and I come across a kid sitting in front of my car on a nice looking Trek mountain bike. This kid was all of 14 or 15, blonde hair, blue eyes, well groomed, and wearing what I think was a Boy Scout uniform. I said hello to him, and he responded "Sup nigga!"

I don't make a habit out of bursting out in hysterical laughter right in peoples faces, but this time I couldn't resist.

I think I made him cry

Not to long ago I went up to the local college to see a member of the staff. Nearby the college is a middle school. The kids were outside for recess. The foulness that came from their mouths, girls and boys, would match anything ever posted on this board. These are 8-10 year olds. I was shocked. These kids should have been made to cry by having a belt used on their asses.

I attribute their lanquage to the music they listen to and the movies they see and, in general, the society we live in today.

When I was a kid, we knew some cuss words, and sometimes used them, but it was not every other word out of our mouth and they were common cuss words, not the foulness that I heard from these kids mouth.

Kids are getting scarier and scarier these days. Almost made me have second thoughts about having my own. I just hope I can be a good parent and try to teach my child better ways to express him/herself. A lot of a child's behaviour has to do with the example set by their parents. I will try to set the best example I can and hope for the best. *shrug*

I listened to filthy music. Watched nasty movies. And heard my dad swear at the cars constantly. But I never swore inside his home. I didn't yell cuss words at teachers. I didn't scream them outside in public places where there were kids around. It's all how you were raised...

These days I'm a little different, hehe...

It's certainly very apparent in the youth. I would have to agree that television and other forms of media are to blame. It's sad, but perhaps they will eventually grow out of it?

This really made my day. I honestly don't know what is funnier, the boyscout and his greeting, or the idea of a bunch of porn peddlers blaming the media for the way kids talk. Thanks, guys, I needed that!

"When I was a kid, we knew some cuss words, and sometimes used them, but it was not every other word out of our mouth and they were common cuss words, not the foulness that I heard from these kids mouth."

when were you a kid? i remember somewhere around age 10 or 11 was the year of cussing as much as possible. that would be about 70-71.

kids do the same thing they've done since civilization began, they rebel against and shock their elders. the difference between successive generations is the demystification of words once deemed taboo. eventually, all the words that were once dirty will become overused and harmless. then the kids will have to make up new words to shock and rebel.

uh yeah, when my brother and i were in NYC a couple of weeks ago, chilling at the lennox lounge in harlem, listening to some fantastic jazz (with only one other white guy in the place besides ourselves) - it was like, every second word out of my mouth.

On the contrary, I can't think of any kid, or any sane white person for that matter, who would do that. There aren't many taboos left, but a white person calling a black person "******" the way black folks sometimes do as a greeting or term of endearment is *definitely* one of 'em.

suprisingly, my kids are , so far, pretty much profanity-free (of course they are 7, 6, and 2...but but they are MY kids...lol) althpugh my oldest son really enjoys saying "I'm gonna kick you in the nuts" constantly to his mother and I...my daughter has caught on a little bit...she's a perfect little aryan type child (blond hair, blue eyes, fair skin) and still has that "little" voice and fell in the park the other day and at the top of her lungs said "Holy shit, I think I broke my nuts" I discovered my "prude button"...but some of the other parents in the park seemed amused...

the problem with kids these days are the parents.

I will never allow my sons or dughter to ever treat or disrespect me , the way I see most kids talking to their parents .

I sat and listened to my 9 year old neighbor bitch at his mother, as if she was under him,

personally I would've put him through the wall

but she took it from him, and when he;s 17 telling her to fuck off and takes the car and robs shit, she'll never understand why

this kid now is the biggest problem in the nieghbourhood, but I tell yuou this when I tell the little mutherfucker something he listens ,
because he is told properly and maybe politly to fuck off or he'll get it
thats what his mom should do
and all these little white kids, mtv and much brainwashed to believe they are black living in the hood make me laugh too

I see these skinny runt white boys walking around all "slimshady"

sad it'll be some time before they figuire out there fucking loosers

ahahaha, the nigga thing is hilarious.

hanging around near 'the bottom field' when i was a kid, about 9 or 10, the little kids that lived in the houses nearby always came down to the field to play on their bikes, and such.

i remember that one day, one of the little kids told me to "fuck off" and that he was going to "fucking leather me"... trash talking. strangest thing about that? the kid was still like 2 years old. he barely knew enough words to string a reasonable sentence together, yet he was trash talking. maybe the older kids that are 6 or 7 would be able to pick that up from tv... doubful that he would pick it up from older brothers/sisters, so i guess the only place a kid of 2 years old could really pick up something like that would be from his parents at home.

typical redneck trash family.

in fact... i shouldn't really say that, even though they're as common as horse shit. they're actually quite nice people, suppose all they need is a few classes on how to conduct their language when kids are around.

one day, coming off the field on my scooter... i fell off on the dirt track. cut both my knees open, crying my eyes out and terrified that i'd have to have my legs amputated or something. anyway, one of the kids went running home and came back with his mom. she took me into their house, cleaned up my knees, bandaged it all up for me, gave me some sweets and had two of the other kids come with me and tell my mom what had happened (it was long distance to walk, too) which i thought was quite nice.

i believe they also did the same thing for one of my friends who fell in the nettles.

looking back... ahahaha, i think we all fell in the nettles at one time or another. first guy to go fell of his bike and right in there. about a month after that, another friend fell in. then about 2 months after that, i fell in. for us, it was kind of like the rule of life that states: sometime during childhood, all boys must slip off their bicycle seats and crush their balls on the metal frame. i suppose it teaches us not to do it when we're older.

I was a kid in the thirties and forties. In my neighborhood there was not much, if any rebellion taking place. Fathers would wear your ass out with a belt, mothers preferred swiches, and teachers used paddles. Most kids, of nine or ten, had some kind of before or after school job, or chores to do on the farm. Every kid I knew had a gun/guns. I was given my first gun when I was ten. We didn't use them to shoot up schools or one another.

In general it was a better behaved generation than that of today.

I was just talking about this the other day. I blame it on the media. I grew up on some of the worst rap ever, Too Short, 2 Live Crew & The Ghetto Boys and I have always been an Ozzy Fan. You can't get more decadant than that list but I still can't bring myself to curse in front of my parents. I've been living on my own for 12 years but I just can't do it! What happened to these kids!

You mock...but I did not know any kid that felt abused, and we were proud to have jobs. I actually bought a car when I was eleven, it cost me thirty dollars. We also actually learned in school. This was before schools implemented grading on a curve. In my opinion that may very well be the worse thing that happened to our school system. That and giving up corporal punishment. Our educational system used to be number one in the world and we are way down the list now.

Yeah they learn...alot of things they shouldn't have learned.

I don't know where you live but I don't know of any kids that have jobs, other than teenagers that for the most part work at a fast food joint, or as a bagger at a market.

As for learning: My oldest son enlisted in the Army on the delayed entry program when he was a Junior in High School. His recruiter recruited him to recruit other students. If he got two more to enlist he would enter active duty as an E-2 instead of an E-1. Well he managed to convince eight of his fellow classmates to enlist, but only three could pass the tests, but yet all eight were awarded High School Diplomas upon graduation. This indicates to me that there were many others in his graduating class that did not deserve a diploma.

The tests are pretty much basic reading, writing and arithmetic. As I have stated, we used to be number one in education, but we are like 15th or so now.

Well the type of job was not really my point, but I don't know of any preteens that have a job, or chores, as was common when I was a boy. While I agree that more teens are working than ever before (the population is three times more than when I was a boy), without knowing the percentage I am satisfied that percentage wise there are far less kids working today than in my generation.

actually, i am talking % - wise. more teens work today %-wise than ever. i'm too tired to look up some statistics, but i am certain that's true (i've read it many times before).

I would woop my kids asses so hard they never would see another birthday if they ever said foul language around me or god help them I hear them say it outside.

To this day I haven't heard them say anything bad in 'my present' that doesn't mean they don't do it to be kewl, but they also know I would have a fit if they do it around me or god forbid my mother.
But, they know better. They know that mom has a mean streak and even thou my son is about 6'4 and in his 20's he dares not.

"Growing numbers of teen-agers are spending their summers in school or hanging out at the pool or mall instead of flipping burgers, mowing yards or even looking for a job. This summer, economists expect the rate of teens who shun summer jobs to hit an all-time high."

Just 56.9 percent of 16- to 19-year-olds worked or looked for a job last summer -- the lowest percentage since 1964, according to the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics. The rate has been declining steadily since 1978, when it peaked at 69.1 percent.

The trend seems to be continuing. May data, the latest figures available, show 46 percent of teens were in the work force, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said. That's down from 47.6 percent in May 2001 and the lowest since 1970. June statistics will be released Friday.
46 percent of teens were in the work force in May this year.

There may not be any statisics for when I was a kid, but in my area when I was a kid, my guess would be that 98% of 10 year olds and up worked either at a job, or had assigned chores to do on the farm, as it was a rural area. The fact is they were kept busy and did not have alot of idle time to get into mischief.

Every day I am thankful for the sixties... they had it right back then.... SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK N ROLL...

Pathfinder, you can take your things were better back in the "good old days" and shove it up your arse. I guess I really shouldn't expect anything else from someone who has chosen a life of conformity. Fighting wars for "the man" - willing and eager fresh meat for the system, saluting your superiors and never questoning orders. I guess buying into the bullshit must have been easier when there was no opposing views... when anyone with a different opinion was a communist or un-American and virtually run out of town.... or at least out of their profession.

I don't buy this crap for a second. They still lynched negroes in the thirties and they still had blacks riding in the back of the bus in the fifties... It was the sixties and the civil rights awakening that helped put a stop to this shit.

You can have "the good old days".... I'm glad they're gone.

I don't know what your age is but that sounds like a typical response of some one that is young and is from a spoiled, give me, hedonistic generation.

Some things were better in the "good old days" some things were not.

Have you ever heard of Duty, Honor, Country? Once again I do not know your age, but the current generation does not seem to be familiar with, let alone practice, any of the above.

The government makes mistakes (ultimately it is the people of the country that make the mistakes, as it is they that put the politicians in their positions) and the McArthy era was a disgraceful period of time.

Once again I do not know your age, but I seriously doubt that you were alive in the thirties, forties, or fifties, so you cannot speak to "the good old days" as you did not live them. I did.

While it is true that I spent a major portion of my life in a system that requires conformity and obedience of orders, within that system, I was considered to be by many, quite the non-comformist and I was lucky to be allowed to put in my thirty years.

I entered the Army at a young age, was almost immediately sent to fight a war. Even though war is a horrible experience I liked being a soldier, for more reasons than I care to go into, and I am sure for reasons that you wouldn't understand.

I took an oath as well as "the man's" money to kill whoever "the man" (the President) pointed me at. It was my chosen profession and it is what "the man" paid me to do and I became quite good at my profession.

Killing people because the government told you... brainwashed with that "duty, honor, country" bullshit. Jesus Christ... "the man" really did have his fat dick stuck right down your throat, didn't he? You probably would have killed women and children too if you'd been ordered too I'm sure.

To be honest, I'm quite amazed that you feel killing is something worth bragging about. You were a very tiny pawn in a very big game run by the rich and powerful and all you were doing is serving their interests.

And no, I was born in 1970 so I didn't live in the "Good old days" but I've heard enough about them to be glad I didn't. I'm grateful I grew up in an era when thinking for yourself was possible and not considered as something subversive.

You cant be serious. I am assuming this means the 80s and the 90s as you probably werent such a free thinking 9 year old.

Free thinking? the PC backlash of the late 80s and all through the 90s kept me from opening my mouth alot. As it did a good majority of this country. And it still does.

The only difference between then and now is the lefties now control what you can and cannot say.
