what's sunblock going to do? sunblock would have been in regards to the ozone layer, and that's healing. So things that one person can't fix we can do as a people.

fuck it

You act like a propagandist. You show several pictures of smog from years ago and show a nice pretty picture today. That's really great man. But why didn't you click the link i posted about pictures of smog in 2006? Did you even click it?

If you waste my time here, that's fine. At least you now have an idea that you might be wrong, and in this case, i have all the time in the world till it won't matter if you believe it or not. It will have already happened.

I was the same way, it was easier to believe that someone else will fix it, but i don't want to go BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA anymore.

If you consider smog (most of which was pictures of the San Fernado valley, and if you understood why smog settles there, you might have a clue) anywhere near close to the levels we had up to the mid to late 80's pollution well... Its like calling a kiddy pool the atlantic. Everyone back then primarily burned coal, or wood to heat their homes, factories had smoke pouring out of their smoke stacks unfiltered in the air. Soot would fall all over the place getting in your lungs. What we have now compared to the period known as the industrial revolution is like filtered spring water compared to drinking shit out of someones ass.

Totally agree, it basicly is a scientific fact alright.

Here in Australia we are having our 100 year drought, thats right its the worst drought ever recorded in the last 100 years. basicly jack all rain for 5+ years now, with many cities now considering putting a large supply of recycled sewage back into the watersupply and spending billions on desaliation plants.

Its happening alright, an inconvient truth certainly showed some good data to prove that too.

I watched it last night retardo. Al Gore going on about his sister dying from cancer, saying the 911 memorial would be covered by water, etc etc. I watched it. Him driving around acting like he is doing important work on his macbook. Talking about beetles blah blah blah. Showing graphs that are intentionally misleading, showing cgi videos that will never happen. I saw it all.

Yes I suckered you in knowing you would say that. Why? Because that was the big gloom and doom issue from the late 80's and early 90's. We were all going to have skin cancer and not be able to go outside without super special clothes to protect our skin. Buy a fucking clue already. How bout our forests? Arent they all supposed to be gone now? And we would have no oxygen. And our soil? That was supposed to be all in the sea. No top soil would be found soon due to runoff. OH and Greenpeace started to help stop the impending ice age due to pollution. God people...

Soil run off and depletion is still a problem, check growth rate of some deserts.
Greenpeace - well fuck them. You will get zero love or support for me for them in their current state or what they turned into a decade or two ago. Yes they are more than responsible for a lot of doom and gloom pseudo science that scared people.

You suckered me, lol, that is great, you are seriously lacking in the intelligence it would take to sucker me. Why don't you go and talk in a forum where you actually have some idea about the subject, this thread is not for you.

Next time watch the movie, not the previews that came with your other movie.

I don't really know whether it's true or not. I do know it's been very warm here in Chicago this winter. I was out in T-shirts right around Christmas. I've jogged regularly in shorts. It's supposed to get colder in the coming week, but it's been very mild overall.

It does seem that the only people who don't believe in global warming are Republicans and scientists paid by the oil companies. Not sure why so many people are caught up in defending oil companies.

oh, i apologize. I wasn't aware that you were trying to point out that coal fired factories and such caused a great deal of pollution, whereas now we don't

But,

In bc, there has been a lot of talk of building more coal fired power plants. Now, if you understand why this is absolutely fucking ridiculous in B.C. you might have a clue. Mostly because in the Fraser Valley, it has the same problems as.. San Fernado valley..

Now, you obviously watched the movie, so you remember Al Gore making reference to the jungles being burned in S.A. and the gas fires in Russia. That doesn't cause the same type of problems as coal power plants? Wouldn't bs like that cause more damage? Considering they have been burning the amazon down for god knows how many years. Not to mention, destroying the planets ability to remove co2 from the atmosphere?

What do you think of trying to set up sanctions against those countries?

Well I think the skin cancer thing was legit. There were a lot of people getting skin cancer because they weren't protecting themselves. All the information and gloom and doom scenarios with skin cancer did cause people to protect themselves much more outside. I would say that the amount of cases hasn't been as bad because a lot of people know about the dangers and are using sun block more often.

Dude you arent even smart enough to see I fished you in. You think I dont know the difference between global warming and ozone depletion? Global warming is the same crap with a different name they spouted a while back, except then it was known as Greenhouse gas emissions. It wasnt a problem with the intensity of the sun as ozone depletion is. It was said that the greenhouse gas emissions were holding in the heat more. Now they have put the twist on it that its a global climate change. We will all be fucked 3 days before the day after tommorow.. GLOOM DOOM! Hey btw what happened with this years hurricane season? Wasnt it supposed to be even worse than the year befores with Katrina? I seem to recall that hmmm....

The problem is not whether it is true or not. The problem is that some people, for whatever reason, want to wait until it's too late to find out if it is true or not.

Most of the things you can do to help are actually better for you anyway, will decrease your energy bills, make you healthier, etc.

Keep in mind before there was man to put out forest fires they burned nonstop for years. The same is true with oil wells when they would catch fire. Think about that for a bit. If a huge forest catches fire during the summer it will just burn unchecked for a long long time.

We started to repair it? That remains a very debatable subject. Many claim the size of the hole in the ozone layer never changed, only shifted. Its all about the information we are fed.

Crow is better with salt, try it.

No hurricanes? Jesus you're an idiot. ok, there were no hurricanes, fuck it, call it all off, it's all a mistake.

Thank God there are actual scientists who don't use hurricanes as their only instrument of measurement.

Right but take into account that most of the people that started getting skin cancer were some of the first generation to really be what we called sun worshipers. Prior to that bathing done at the beach etc most people were covered up pretty good. Think that the increase in sun cancer could of had something to do with the decrease of clothing? And not some hole that got larger because I used too much aquanet back then lol.

What hurricanes did we have last year? We were told they would be worse this past year due to global warming trends? Are you saying they didnt say that?

Who is they? I was told that they COULD be worse, not that they WOULD be worse, see the difference there?

Hurricanes just don't appear because the water is warmer, but if the water is warmer and a hurricane does form, then it will make for a larger hurricane.

That is true.. there was forest fires. I don't want to bother, so i'm just going to say it and you'll just have to believe me.

How many forest fires today are started naturally? Why is it so easy now for forest fires to start? Why is it so hard to stop them?

1. no idea, a bunch i'm sure, but mostly human started.

2. Yada the world is heating up, everything is drying out, yada yada,

3. Winds. Global warming has a big effect on winds.. Winds will fucking screw any forest fire rescue attempt badly.. Example: B.C. (kelowna's burning), california, (not sure what happened, but we sent a lot of men to help), Australia, (not sure what happened, but we sent a lot of men to help).

You have a good point, but you can't honestly tell me that you can burn the amazon down naturally. Seriously. Also, add that to everything else? One car doesn't do ANYTHING. BILLIONS and BILLIONS of cars/factories/greed can do serious damage.

You're arguing that we shouldn't be so concerned over GLOOM and DOOM stories. But in retrospect, with your 40 years or whatever, can you honestly say that the gloom and doom has not helped and fixed problems?

The big thing growing up as a kid was "Ozone" "Green House Emissions" and "landfills".

We knocked two of those out of the park. We have brand new technology that not only incinerates garbage, but using that energy to create new energy, and materials. These plants are entirely self-sufficient, and have NO pollution. the ozone thing took a lot of awareness and some very costly and unwanted laws.

WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY!

Like I said, when there are seashell fossils several hundred miles inshore, you have to accept that more of the earth has been covered with liquid water than it is now, ergo less frozen water, ergo previous warmer conditions.

Sorry that I'm just not that worried about it

2/3rds are cause by humans now adays, however 1/3rd by lightning. Now if fires are not put out and cause by lightning what do you think would happen then?

Nah, made it through 5th - but just barely

There are too many things I have control over that I spend time working on fixing. .02C changes in the weather every 10 years just isn't anywhere near the top of my list.

I am beginning to understand your problem.

Global warming is not something that MIGHT happen, it is something that is happening, it is not a single event.

Here in my State, bears are not going into hibernation because they are all fucked up by the warm weather.

14 of the 50 states in the US have reported the warmest winters ever in history.

While there were no hurricanes, there are lots of other signs that things are just not right.

Nature would take it's course. Wouldn't matter, because in that theory, we wouldn't exist.

Global warming theory?

Are you saying you believe that we are having no effect on the enviroment? That everything i have written here could just be a warming trend, and has nothing to do with our blatant disregard to our home?

"For the 2006 north Atlantic hurricane season, NOAA is predicting 13 to 16 named storms, with eight to 10 becoming hurricanes, of which four to six could become 'major' hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher," added retired Navy Vice Adm. Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Ph.D., undersecretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere and NOAA administrator.

Warmer ocean water combined with lower wind shear, weaker easterly trade winds, and a more favorable wind pattern in the mid-levels of the atmosphere are the factors that collectively will favor the development of storms in greater numbers and to greater intensity. Warm water is the energy source for storms while favorable wind patterns limit the wind shear that can tear apart a storm's building cloud structure.

This confluence of conditions in the ocean and atmosphere is strongly related to a climate pattern known as the multi-decadal signal, which has been in place since 1995. Since then, nine of the last 11 hurricane seasons have been above normal, with only two below-normal seasons during the El Niño years of 1997 and 2002.
Oh and here we go. This article blames global warming for the NORMAL hurricane season. My God these people are lame lol

http://www.ecoenquirer.com/normal-hurricane-season.htm

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST lmao!!!

Quote:
According to award-winning Harvard global warming researcher, Prof. Simon Ivorytower, global warming theory predicts increases in all kinds of weather. "Not only does global warming theory predict more storms, more droughts, more floods, it also predicts more normal weather as well. This is what makes global warming theory so powerful?it can explain anything", Prof. Ivorytower told ecoEnquirer.

Some non-scientists, and even some less-than-credible climate "scientists", have pointed out that global warming theory needs to be testable. They claim that blaming every hurricane or record temperature as "proof" of global warming, while ignoring other evidence that would not support the theory, is biased and unscientific.

"Well, of course ill-informed amateurs and charlatans would claim that", Prof. Ivorytower stated, with disdain in his voice. The professor disputed claims that his acceptance of monetary awards from the MacArthur Foundation and the Heinz Endowments, both having a history of funding left-leaning causes, has biased his opinions. "These charitable organizations obviously have no biases on the subject of global warming, as evidenced by the fact that they are not funded by "Big Oil"", Prof. Ivorytower said.

"Next time you experience near-normal weather, don't think we have been given a reprieve from global warming", the professor warned. "What you are witnessing is simply one more real-world example of our rapid downward spiral into climate chaos".

Because if that's so, maybe you should consider your intelligence a tool not to question, but to predict.

Global warming is a very, very well documentated and real bet.

Whereas i've done nothing to convince you that this is a serious and real problem, you've done nothing but feed me wishful thinking and the desire to close my eyes.

Not once, once, have you given me an argument that i've had trouble ridiculing, or putting a very real doubt on.

Doesn't that make you think at the very least?

First of all you are a moron for using "Pittsburgh" as a litmus test for World Wide Smog and polution. You might want to have a bigger sample set to base your data on. Then you might want to look at OTHER FACTORS and actually be educated in what you are talking about.

Quote:
During World War II, Pittsburgh produced 95 million tons of steel.[1] By this time, the pollution from burning coal and steel production created a black fog (or smog). Following the war, the city launched a clean air and civic revitalization project known as the "Renaissance." This much-acclaimed effort was followed by the "Renaissance II" project, begun in 1977 and focusing more on cultural and neighborhood development than its predecessor.

In response to the collapse of the steel industry in the 1970s and 1980s, Pittsburgh's economy has shifted to healthcare, education, technology, and financial services
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh,_Pennsylvania

You lived in Pittsburgh and you didnt know this ???? It took me 5 mins on Google to get the info.

BTW, if you standing next to a fire there will be smoke, if you put out the fire the smoke will go away. Do you fucking get ?

You're saying that because seven hurricanes didn't rip across the us everything is fine?

Regardless of your ignoring the hurricans/typhoons/whatever that have hit in different parts of the world?

Gravity's only a theory, too, ya know.

But I still expect that if I hold out a rock and let it go, it's gonna fall.

So, since you didn't seem moved by me outright refuting an earlier point you made, let's try to work with the only real model we have to make comparisons with outside of our own planet's record-keeping: Other planets.

The Earth is in a period of warming.

source=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming

The Why?

Whether we are to blame, or not - whether or not mankind's involvement in resource redistribution is more than the Earth's climate is prepared to handle and still produce life in its present variety... well, that's a subject for debate, sure.

So let's look at Venus. Venus does not have a single drop of liquid water (not even gonna mention "ice") on the planet because the surface temperature is around 900 degrees F (c. 480 degrees C), which is hot enough to melt lead. The planet is so frikkin hot _not simply_ because of the fact that it's closer to the Sun, but also because its atmosphere is so CO2 rich, that it has a run-away greenhouse affect. The Heat, once enveloped in the planet's atmosthere, has a very difficult time escaping.

CO2 is the same compound that Americans release into the atmosphere at the rate of about 40,000 pounds per American per year... and other industrial nations seem to be doing their best to catch up.

pair all this with the fact that species of coral are already dying because of the world temperature change being altered just tenths of a degree, and we have issues.

My advice is to stop arguing just to argue, stop listening to what others think, and simply look at the raw science of it all.

If you can't add 2 and 2 there, and at least quirk an eyebrow at the matter, god help ya.
