Since 1996 Cisco has owned the name "iPhone" and yet Apple has just launched their product with the same name which begs the question, how much did Apple pay for it.

Anyone know?

I'm guessing it was close to 8 figures...

Yeah I was thinking this, I was under the impression that the product was gonna be named something else, then after seeing it all over the news sites yesterday I was a bit confused as I knew Linksys had just brought out their product called "iPhone".

I guess from Apple's point of view it's a win/win. They've had the impact in the press they wanted for the launch, and even if they get pressured into changing the name, it can only be good publicity.

Personally I couldn't care less what it's called, I STILL WANT ONE!

That's what I was thinking. Even if they have to pay out a couple of million in compensation it'll just be a drop in the ocean of what they'll make if they capture a decent percentage of the mobile/cell phone market with all the publicity they've generated from the lawsuit.

Let''s go ppl, you are getting paid lots of money to market products and the best thing you can come up with is iWhatever. If i was your boss and you came to me with a new product and you told me the name of it was going to be iAmDumb or whatever I would respond with "you''re fired" and don''t expect a good reference you retard. Are people this lazy that they can't think of a good original name for a product. Or is it just that everyone wants to ride on the coat tails of the iPod? Everyone is just stealing ideas these days.
