Being awarded it and collecting it are two totally diffrent things. Seems the owner of the site in question didn't even answer the lawsuit or appear in court.

Hell for all anyone knows the site owner could be dead or weho knows where. Doesn't seem the site generates much income from the looks of it, so good luck to them collecting a dime.

$1.5 million is not "millions", and it's not "net" until you collect.

Still, good for you if they were stealing copyrighted content.

They couldn't find the guy for serving him notice, what makes them think they will find him for payment. They will be lucky to recover their attourney fees. What's 33% of 1.5 million?

The thing about collections is this; once you have a judgement ITS THERE FOR LIFE. No one can stay under the radar forever. Stephen Cohen/Gary Kremen is a prime example. There are many more.

My own company Falcon won a $1.8M judgement in 2000. We are just now collecting.

Eventually it turns up. Patience is the name of the game.

I'm all for that.

I'm willing to bet that 90% of the images and videos on submitted galleries that aren't sponsor content are stolen.
If those guys went away then the people who bought content would have a fighting chance.

Way easier to find accounts than people - even if they think they are protected offshore.

Far-L - I will call you when I get to LV. We can get together and catch up! Its always a pleasure to see you.

The cases are all going quite well. The Federal System as you know is a slow process but it does get the job done. We have another 3-6 cases getting filed this month and another 3 next month.

In the absence of a settlement we will be going to trial on 2 cases in May.

Congrats Steve and company.

Even if you have problems collecting, you can always go after all sites, domains, etc.

First, they can garnish the revenue from the processor, paycom. That is if the site makes any money.

Never disregard the value of a good judgment.

About 8 or 9 years ago, sued a douche in Florida for CI. Won a default judgment of 6 figures.

The douche lived in Florida which is the state you want to go to if you are a douche and want to avoid paying judgments or want to file bk. He told my attorney in Florida to tell me to fuck off, I will never get a dime. He was head of household so no wage garnishment, couldn't find any assets in Florida other than his house which you cant touch.

TWO YEARS later, I call the guy out of courtesy to tell him I'm selling the judgment to a very aggressive collection company and was going to give him an opportunity to buy it himself for far less than the 6 figures.

He isn't home, wife says he is in Virgina at the apartments. He moved I asked? Oh no she says, he owns 25% of a 600 unit apartment building next to the University of Virginia Law School.

I hire a lawyer in VA. 30 days later I'm garnishing rents. 60 days later I'm back in court with a forced sale order. He beats me to the punch (you always want to sell yourself vs being forced to sell) and sells his share to a family member to pay me my judgment.

The day his lawyer called to let me know the funds were being wired, I asked his attorney to give him a message from me. I'm sure you can guess what that was.

The story says the other party did not appear to defend the suit, but it also said the court found all legal requirements were made to engage the suit.

In the US the plaintif must be served in person with the suit before the court will engage. They found them/him with a process server and put the actual suit in their hands(or agents hands), or there would not be a judgment.
