Why is money more important than life?

Here in WA state, it's a $110 fine if you get caught without a seatbelt on.

Why does the threat of a $110 fine scare people more than dying or getting seriously hurt?

Same thing goes for helmet laws.

Kind of odd don't you think? Lose my life, awwww I'll risk it... $110???? Fuck that shit, I better put this thing on.

Back in the old days, we just didn't LIKE them. Seatbelts were a nuisance.

But don't you think it's sad that people have to be threatened with a fine to make themselves safer? Specially with something so simple as putting on a seat belt?

I say, let the idiots do what they want, will help weed out stupidity from the human race when they get themselves killed.

If it's really an issue of life vs money, why don't you buy a helmet and use it while riding in a car? or why even stop there, if you wear a helmet all the time, chances of getting your head injured by slipping for example will be reduced greatly

I know people who always put their seatbelt on for security after being trough an accident, witness an accident, or just after having their first kid... I guess people have a hard time realizing what 'could' happen to them or their loved ones until it DOES happen.

A. Traffic is too heavy and is barely moving

OR

B. I'm speeding and would rather climb out a wrecked car then burn to death stuck inside it or drown if it flipped into water.

I know, but my point isn't the safety, my point is why do people need to be threatened with a monetary fine in order to make them do something so simple as fasten a seatbelt, it's not a hard thing to do, there is no burden of fastening a seatbelt.

So I'll ask again, since these didn't answer the question that was asked of you. Is your life not important to you?

I'll even answer your statements.

A. well if you're looking to not get a ticket, this is when most seatbelt tickets are given. Motorcycle cops love to drive thru slow traffic and spot people not wearing them. Most seat belt tickets are given at this time.

B. You watch too much tv.

I always wear one but never think about a ticket. I just feel better wearing it. I can see how wearing a belt can keep you in your seat and in better control of the car in a small accident or spin out. so that would make sense because it could keep others from being hit. I don't agree with motorcycle helmet law. I think that's a personal choice and it takes away from the feeling of freedom. If you wreck with a bike with or without a helmet it isn't going to effect anyone but you and your family. the Government should not have the right to make me protect myself. They don't make rock climbers or people on bikes over 16 (in most states) wear one. it's a choice

The effects to other people come up when those riding without a helmet also do not have insurance or enough insurance to cover their medical costs when they do not die instantly from the crash. Same thing goes with seat belts, the severity of ones injuries are typically reduced or removed when wearing one and thus less medical costs.

While I may not agree with the laws and feel there are other alternatives to them. I can see the reasoning behind them. Personally I will not even start a vehicle or wait for someone else to start it before I put a seat belt on though and it has nothing at all to do with any potential fine. This goes even if I only plan to back the car out of the drive way into the street and turn it around to pull in a different direction.

Because many people aren't really afraid of dying and getting seriously hurt isn't in their thought process about life. It's either I have fun/this is my life or I die. Some people don't think about getting so fucked over and they don't die, hospital bills, not being able to work, being disfigured or paralyzed, loseing limbs...these are things that happen to other people not me. Once they get a bill for something then it's different

btw on the subject of seatbels make sure you pull your lap belt down on your lap not your abdomen...or you can break your back in an accident....and that my friends is not helpful

Fuck the seatbelt laws. Fuck the helmet laws. If you don't want to wear them, fine. You're only contributing to your own demise, which should be your right in my opinion.

I'm with you. If you can't see the value of not bouncing out through the windshield and onto the pavement then you deserve what you get. Personally I think you shouldn't get dinged for that or not wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle. At the same time though, if you fuck up and wind up in the hospital 'cause you weren't strapped in or crack your nut when you dumb your bike without a helmet, the state (ie. me) shouldn't have to pay for it.

It's $25 here. My Dad had a friend who has gotten 3 already while riding with my Dad - you'd think he'd figure it out by now ;)

I personally think it's OK if you don't want to wear a seatbelt or a helmet, but if you get hurt, then no sucking on the government tit for medical care, care for your dependents, etc. If you WANT to do something dumb, I'm all for it - I just don't want to pay for your stupidity
