Hosting a domain on a dedicated server?

Can someone please tell me how to get this setup.
I have the dedicated server sitting waiting to be used, post here
or hit me up on icq if ur kind enough to take me through it.

I am renting the server for personal use, they rent me the server and thats
all. I thought I could just install apache, php and mysql then it would work?

Maybe Im wrong :S

if you are that uncertain then you shouldn't do this on your own as you will just be setting up an easy target and will get rootkitted / spamboxed. Get a real host who knows what they are doing, after all if your host is not there you have no chance of making an online living.

Tell the host to push the turbo button on the back of the server near the monitor plug. This will enable the domain hosting protocal. Alot of hosts are unaware of this feature. Keep in mind though that your server will go through nearly 25% more processor fluid as a result.

a dedicated, even unmanaged, is normally delivered to the client with the OS installed....
If you have no Control Panel ( pretty dumb if you are not a pro ), you have to add domains thru a ssh session ...

Have fun, or make yourself a favor:

ask your provider to add a Control Panel ( WHM,Cpanel, or DirectAdmin, ...) .
