Looking for advice on blog software

Howdy,

Guys, help me out here, I need a stand alone software package that I can install on my server. Main key is that I want my users to be able to open their own accounts, aka start their own blogs.
I tried Word Press but it seems that they are only offering the software package for your own use. I can of corse create the PHP script that will automate account creations, but maybe there is a solution that does that already?

Is there any other software developer other than WordPress that is worth of checking out?

Very *few* issues, at least.

It was a pain to get running and tweak, but now that it's up, it's cooking along nicely. I use Autoblogger Pro to "seed" it with blogs so that people are encouraged to make their own (i.e., it doesn't look dead). They crank up to a few thousand visitors within the first month, which is nice .. and then grow nicely after that.

Nice selection of themes (most WP themes work with MUWP as well), comes with the source code so you can modify it, etc.

Aside from the people who've never even run it groaning about it hogging resources that you'll have to listen to over and over ... MU WordPress gets my recommendation, too.

Hehe .. sorry about that, I have fast fingers. While I'd agree with you that ABPSA is great for blogging (what'd you expect? ), I'd say that it isn't appropriate for exactly what he's trying to do.

I'd use it more as a supplement more than anything else.

However, once he's got it up and running, I'd be happy to use MY copy of ABP to post to HIS blog system.

I have not tried it myself, just figured since original poster was familiar with WP it would be the best way to start. I have something coming up that I wanna work on so I will be testing it out a bit shortly. Good to hear that it does work well, even if there are a few headaches getting it up and running.

They're headaches only if you don't know what to look out for, and once you've got it down, you'll find your subsequent installs of Multiuser WordPress are fairly smooth.

It's slick in many regards, frustrating in others. To see a "live" setup of MU WordPress, check out:

http://www.edgereport.com

Some of the sub-domains under Edge Report (MUWP is configured to use subdomains, not subdirectories, in my install) are:

http://gadgets.edgereport.com/
http://cooking.edgereport.com/
http://ps3info.edgereport.com/
http://wiiblog.edgereport.com/

All of those were populated with Autoblogger Pro Stand Alone, and run on "autopilot" every few hours.

Unless you're a blogging veteran, ABP might be overwhelming. I wrote it to be user-friendly, but at the same time, it's got a lot of horsepower.

Let's get your MUWP installation rocking and rolling first, and then we'll play with ABP and see what we can get going between the two before you make any decisions.
