That's not HD-DVD, was an HD broadcast which isn't the same(or quite as good).

I have a HD DVD player and the picture is so good I almost can't stand watching standard DVDs any more. Panasonic projector to a 105" screen = incredible. that has to be Regular cable TV (I think LOTR was on TNT HD the other night) because the LORT trilogy is not on HD DVD yet. And I agree, HDTV is great but HD DVD is 10x better.

Is 480p really that blurry for DVDs? Or upscaled DVDs? I don't remember LOTR maps being nearly that blurry, will have to watch later and see.

Regardless HD is fucking awesome, depending on your viewing distance. If your TV is back far enough (say 20-25ft) you’ll notice no real difference between 1080p or 480p.

It's funny because my brother has a PS3 and he was trying to figure out why the copy of Talladega Nights that came with it looked not much better than regular DVD. He said his HD cable channels looked better. Turns out Talladega is a horrible quality transfer, going by the reviews on the net.

Blu-ray really needs to get their shit together if they expect to beat HD-DVD, which is currently outselling them, software-wise, almost 10 to 1.

I've never heard of a poor quality HD-DVD transfer, but blu-ray seems to have tons of them.

To my understanding, to make a Blu-Ray disk, you have to make a HD DVD disk, the format that to get to the Blu-Ray format. And the more times you change formats, you are bound to get fuck ups.

Pretty cool, I see clarity, more color saturation and increased DOF with HD DVD grabs.

I checked out the quality of the LOTR map on my hdtv crt projection screen and it looks far better than at that page. Definately not 'hd quality' but it wasn't nearly that fucking blurry. I think that is a viral page in order to try and sell the idea of HD (since many simply are not that interested in HD).

Personally i'll wait till the duel Blueray / HD-ROM drives come out, not buying one or the other. Get a machine that plays both.

ofcourse its a big difference, he clearly says he blew the dvd still grab up to match the HD dvd resolution, what happens if you blow a still grab up?... ding ding ding , it gets blurry.. the only way you can make a true comparisement is to watch it yourself on your screen.. just my 2 cents

HD-DVD, BLU-RAY, ULTRA-HD, 3D-HD, EVD from China and VMD from India etc....

Forget the VHS/BETA battle...It's gonna be nuts for the next few years until the dust settles on a single HD format if it ever will.

There's several differences between Blu-ray and Hd-dvd. The biggest difference is the max average bandwidth. Currently, dvds have a max of around 11Mbit/s.

HD-DVDs have ~26Mbit/s

Blu-ray has ~52Mbit/s

Technologically, Blu-ray is better, it has a bigger bitrate and a larger disc capacity relative to the HD-DVD. I think the greater Mbit/s is a strong reason for sony to choice Blu-ray for the PS3. Within games, you can have story line sequences that are in true HD. They can also do this because the storage on the Blu-ray is 25Gigs for a single sided disc, and 50gigs for the dual layer blu-ray discs. The PS3's, resistance of man, I think fills up almost 25 gigs.

These new gaming systems are insane and the next round of games for the xbox360 and ps3 are going to be ridiculous.

If you're looking for a ps3, we have a contest, check it out.

-K.

The difference is clear for sure, if that DVD source is quality, which I somehow doubt .... But no doubt HD is an excellent choice nowadays!

Why are so many retards posting this link on various boards lately calling it hd-dvd vs dvd.

No where does it state hd-dvd. It's upconverted dvd vs a cable/sat HD broadcast. Neither of which can hold a candle to real hd-dvd or blueray.
