This is where I do not agree with you. If you dig deep enough, you'll see that most of religious rules and taboos either have now or rather had some long time ago very rational grounds.

It's just that religion is very conservative and some rule that was a real help to people hundreds of years ago is a bullshit now.

It was only unhygienic when soap wasn't 10 cents a bar and available at every sink, shower, store, and gas station known to man.
