With all the DirectNic trouble lately (my thoughts)

I think its BS that a domain registrar would delete your site and then lock your domain name because a TGP owner or any affiliate did not produce 2257's which most affiliates DO NOT have. The program has them not the affiliate.

We use http://www.moniker.com and have never had a problem with them at all the customer support there is outstanding and they are always around to help with anything we need. MonikerChris is one of the best guys I have ever dealt with, Anything you need contact him at [email protected] he will set you up with an account and make sure you get the best service and price out there.

CHECK OUT www.moniker.com

Pete, geez dude. "all the Directnic trouble"... exactly one case.

"produce 2257 info" - nothing of the sort happened. They asked for pictures and dates of birth for 14 models on a single site.

Your post reads like an attempt to get your buddy Chris some business at the expense of Directnic, kicking someone when they are down. That is a very classless move.

At least tell the truth.

Directnic did it to themselfs, nobody asked them to police the adult industry.

Who told directnic to be the police of the internet? I think we already have enough people in the USA trying to stop adult that we don't need more people doing it

*ahem*. Considering that at least one of the trades on Slick's sites has turned up as CP this morning, you might think that Directnic has every right. No, they are not being the police of the internet, that is YOUR spin trying to make them look bad to make your buddy some money.

They have a complaint, they need to address it. It's in their terms that they have the right to ask questions. Most registrars would have just turned the domains off.

Now, quit being a fuckwad trying to make your buddy money on Directnic's back. You look a total fool for it.

They didn't ask for 2257 info. They asked for ID to show that the model is over 18... no name, no address, no nothing else... picture & DoB visible. That is not 2257 info...

You guys need to take some critical reading classes.

So you admit that in their effort to investigate a cp case they blatantly fail
at it because the age of a model doesn't prove it.

No, they asked for proof certain models are adult, and they locked down the account so no changes could be made to the domains. Slick's sites have been up the entire time, without issue. This is very different than most registrars, who with a complaint in hand and seeing a probably violation, would have pulled the plug.

This thread is just Pete trying to make some money for his buddy.

Pete, check the thread title. You are trying to drive people to your friend's service while pissing on Directnic. You do this while posting half truths and by trying to make it sound like there is all kinds of trouble with directnic, which is not the case. It is blatant and rude.

You did notice that at least one of the sites Slick was trading with was shut down the Danish authorities today, right?

I've red and understood what's going on.. and it's still none of their business.
That's just my take on it. I don't really care what you think about it.

I don't know what legal right they have or don't have, but I wouldn't want that to happen to me. I don't have all the ID's for the FHG's of other companies I use, and it's just mockery and waste of an individuals time to make affiliate seek those out. I don't have hours of time to communicate with dozens of companies trying to get them to give me ID's for content they're basically responsible for. Why don't Directnic hunt down the ID's from the 2257 links from the FHG's themselves? Why make an affiliate jump thru hoops? I'd understand it if it was a paysite, or a content store or whatever 'primaryproducer' that is actually supposed to have the ID's at hand.

If you think that some random company you're dealing with has every right to ask for ID,fine.. I don't think that way.

The think I DO agree with you is that making threads about other registrars that are 'better' isn't very classy though.

OK, so someone look around and find someone with clearly questionable pictures who's hosted with Moniker. Contact Moniker and see what they do. They have 2 SMART choices - contact the webmaster or contact the government. Which one would you rather have them do?

DirectNic hasn't asked for 2257 info, nor have they shut the sites down.

Again, SO many people putting the cart before the horse.

Pete I can live with a moniker link in this thread. I personally think its a fucked up situation too and yes were at dnic too and yes we do have all docs in print and online so were all good.

Still the whole idea behind this is worrying me, to say at least.

thats what I wanted to know too, but it seems noone requested anything. Still to impose some rule thats barely legal sucks. Like others said, you cant bend laws like that and just bypass state laws.

if its CP I sure has hell want the authorities contacted.
If its not CP you can even contact god because none gives a flying fuck.
But I sure don't want a registrar to tell me whats legal and whats not.

Exactly my thoughts on that, if its true CP then contact the authorities and have that person shut down and arrested, if its not then the registrar shouldn't try being the police

What are they trying to do then ? Because sure thing they don't investigate a cp case.
Not that they'd have such authority in the first place.

Darksoul, heh? I am assuming english is your second or third language, you are pretty hard to understand here.

Here is the type of site Slick was linking to from Major Pervent:

That's right.. look at the referal code... look at what is said on the page.

I am beginning to think that Directnic was contacted because Slick's sites were a major source of traffic for these illegal sites. I have no proof, but when you see things like this, well...

Slick's problem appears to be Slick, nothing else. Seeing Pete start a thread to trying to make his buddy at Moniker some money is downright insulting and rude.

At least tell the truth.

No they asked for current ID's from every model on all his sites to start this BS off.. They dropped it to 14 but from what I've seen they still want ID's for proof of age.

Why would they bother asking for date of birth.. What's that going to prove if it's not on a official ID.. You honestly think they are going to let him just gave them birth dates with no proof.

lol get real.. anyone could make that up..

crocket, ID with the name, address, and other personal information blacked out.

What is so hard about that? Content providers have been doing that in some cases since 1995.

Most of us have a "connection" with DirectNic because we've known the owners for over 10 years. We know how against CP they are. We know they want to be around for the long term. We know they've worked hard to build an incredible company.

Wow... I need to catch up on this a bit... I appreciate the support from Pete, recommending Moniker service in general, and the service I do my best to provide in specific. Whether he is trying to make money for me, or just being infomative, Moniker's dedication to our clients is verifiably excellent.

With regard to DirectNic, they are good people and friends of ours, and I am unsure exactly what the motivation was for their inquiry and actions, but I don't think that it is an "across the board" policy for their company. Since I don't work for them, I won't guess how their policy is changing, or what future plans they might have.

What I CAN speak to is MONIKER'S policy with regard to complaints or objections to our clients websites and domains. We don't shut you down for complaints... Let's face it... it is the adult industry, SOMEBODY is going to have a problem with it somewhere, so we expect for there to be complaints... the difference between us and many other registrars is that we will TALK TO YOU about it before taking any action.

From this standpoint, RawAlex, it is understandable why Pete would be talking about Moniker and me... We PROTECT HIS INTRESTS. We make sure that he, and all of our other many adult and adult related clients continue to make money by NOT yielding to complaints. On a daily basis we recieve complaints and orders to "cease and desist"... I don't get shaken up when they come in, because normally they are just sent to rattle cages and try and scare us into shutting a site down. Suffice it to say that we don't scare easily.

I am grateful for all the clients that I work with, and for the friendships that I have with my clients. Pete is a good friend, as are many others. I will continue to protect their interests as best I can.

Which is exactly what DirectNic did. It seems a lot of people think it would have been better for them to turn them over to the government first intead.

Do you think they're going to send me to Hawaii for a week for these posts? I don't drink more than 2 drinks a night at shows so I doubt I'm looking for a free drink, lol. Plus they haven't gone to shows in years!

Companies like DirectNic and Moniker are owned by Adult industry folks. I put more faith in them than I do Godaddy or whatever.

I have known most of the people involved with Directnic since before you could get on the internet. Interestingly, I don't have a single domain registered with them (and I have a large number of domains).

I also do no business with them.

I also know a number of other registrars, and I would come out to support them in the same manner as I am supporting Directnic right now. CP is a horrible, horrible problem that not only hurts our business, but hurts innocent children. I can never fault anyone for wanting to handle this situation carefully and not just pass the buck.

Chris, while I am sure you appreciate Pete's fine friendship, the nature of this thread and it's title is misleading, and looks like a very shrill sort of shill for your business. I would suggest that you privately ask him to better time his sales campaigns so that it doesn't look like you are trying to dance on Directnic's prematurely dug grave.

CP is a very horrible thing at least we agree on that, and for me to make a thread stating that I like someone over someone else is my thoughts, since when is it not ok to post what i think? last i check we do live in the US with free speach as one of my rights

Personally, I don't want *ANY* registrar talking about potential child abuse content. That is not their function.

Whether domain registrar, God, member of the public, Attorney General - report the issue to law enforcement. It's that simple - it's not a discussion.

It's also obvious that the standards of a few webmasters are out of sync - they need to get off their asses damned quick and clean their act up.

I know it might be hard for you to grasp but this is nowhere near what DN did.

RawAlex, I don't want you to misunderstand me on this, Moniker will not support or tolerate CP, and our clients know this across the board, but it is BECAUSE of the close relationship that we have with our clients that we are able to protect their interests. We EXPECT our clients to be responsible for thier own content, because our history and relationships with you all are tremendous.

I also appreciate the fact that you are standing up for a registrar. As I mentioned, the people at DirectNic are good people, and they are friends of ours. I really can't speak to the decisions that they are making, but I do not believe in any way shape or form that they are close to the "grave". They have been around a long time, and were founded largely to serve the adult community. We respect them, even when our policies and actions differ from theirs.

Am I the only one that's sick and tired of hearing Mike's cheerleading squad of personal friends spreading their candy coated bullshit after each and every single post about this subject?

This is a serious issue that effects the very foundation of the internet and has ramifications WAY larger than just GFY and who or who's not been friends with anyone for a long time.

Spouting biased opinions not based on facts, but based on friendships, is completely inappropriate given the seriousness of this situation.

Virtually everyone seems to think what DirectNic is doing is bullshit, with the exception of a very small handful of people who have personal feelings for him.

There's a reason for that.

As well they should have when dealing with CP. Or would you rather they give a CP pervert a chance to continue his garbage on another registrar?
