Hmmm... I would recommend Chuck Palahniuk's "Haunted", but I don't think you can stomach it. But it's very good and it's pretty episodic. Great book to read in parts during the evening. The prose is direct to the point and not at all flowery to make you disconnected with the story. But be warned it's very very graphic. Don't read the chapter "Guts" before you eat dinner though.

Terry Pratchett books are hilarious and is also thought provoking. Each volume of Diskworld isn't that long. You'll sleep with a smile on our face.

How about burning a book instead? Those filthy paper bastards are nothing but trouble. Do yourself and humanity a favor, go outside and start a nice fire and throw every one of those paper slave masters in and watch them burn.

if you like fantasy-- Frank Herbert's Dune is a total classic and totally freaking awesome.

anything by chuck p. (fight club, invisible monsters, choke, etc.) is really good. also, bret easton ellis (rules of attraction, american psycho) is literary heroin. "the stand" by stephen king is my second fave read of all time - number one being to kill a mockingbird by harper lee. if you havent read that one you should get a framing hammer and hit yourself in the face with it. then read it.

If you want an epic try Shantaram. You won't be able to put it down. It's a page turner.

A true story set in India. After reading the book both Johnny Depp & Russell Crowe wanted to buy the rights to it. Depp won so Crowe joined on as producer. It's now in pre-production.

Other Chuck Palahniuk books that I lurve is Lullaby and Fight Club. Makes me want to sing to a baby to death and pick fights with strangers. :-)

To Kill A Mockingbird is a nice classic. :-)

For fantasy try the dragon lance series. I read them when I was a kid. Also the Hobbit is from the Lord of the rings books if you haven’t read that.

I read science fiction. Anything from PKD and William Gibson
