I have started to make movie galleries and I protect them with a cookie in the html page which allows people to download them ONLY when they are viewing my gallery.
Now, a lot of the movie forums (hotlinkiners) post the direct URL from which the movies are located on the server. When they click the movie they are currently taken to my movie post. My question is. What should I do to these hotlinkers? Just keep on pointing them to my movie post or shall I have them go to an html page that has an auto pop up for a dialer and then send them to some exit traffic program, then send them to my movie post? Suggestions? |

Why not send them right to your sponsors filter page. I would not use a dialer. If they are downloading movies chances are they are on some sort of broad band connection which makes it more likely for them to have a credit card. That?s just my opinion I am not an expert

Well the ppl who are at these forums know what they are doing so I don't think a dialer will work.

Try this:
http://php.offshoreclicks.com/cgi-bin/ref.cgi?referral If you promote the dialer and someone starts to download it but then cancels, you can still redirect them to whatever page you want. You set up what page you want it to go to in the stats section. So you don't lose the traffic anyway. Or just use the impression program and make 0.3 cents for every one of the bastards that hits your files. |

So, now everybody who has cookies disabled (which included a lot of people 'cause somehow some people think cookies can harm a computer) are redirected as well... including people with a filled up temp internet file directory (which are quite a lot of people actually, I get a lot of people asking why I didn't update when in fact I updated, which usually means their temp internet file directory is full. Also, I get report from people saying they can not save JPEG anymore, but that all images show up as BMP, which has the same reason)... hm...

It is possible to protect a movie file with htaccess so that they can't be downloaded via right click. But it is still possible to left click due to the fact that htaccess has no effect on the movie players - such as Windows Media Player. Guess what? I'd use that and gladly state on my page to "LEFT CLICK" to view movies, but I wouldn't be listed because site owners that link me want to impress the visitors and earn loyalty. You know the deal Hun... you want all pictures, I want all banners. ;-) I make movie galleries and hotlinkers stink. I'm always getting hotlinked from movie forums... if I had no protection then my bandwidth bill would double or even triple. Should I quit doing movie galleries because I can't afford to have bandwidth stolen for me? Nope. It is the same principal if I tell you that you're going to have to pay three times more for your hosting from now on, or shut down the Yellow Pages, Thumbs Up, etc etc. Imagine you're starting out as a webmaster now and you discovered that you can make $2k a week from movie galleries. You can be hotlinked, and give all your money to the bandwidth fees... or you can sacrifice 10 to 15% of your visitors and keep making money from it. Sure it isn't good for some surfers, they lose trust, and so on... but there is no alternative available. At least I send those non-cookie or hotlinker traffic to a clean page with no exits (the main page of my tgp). |
