inaccessable boot drive--Help!!
im running windows 2000. this problem happened after i had installed the newest version of adaware and was running it. the electricity went out as it was running and when i started the computer back up i get this error
STOP ![]() it tells me to check for viruses, run checkdisk but i can't do anything as i can't get past that blue error window. i try running in safe mode via F8, i tried using the 'last known good configuration' but that doesn't work either. i have some bootdisks i made a while back but im not sure how to use them. i put the first bootdisk in the floppy drive and windows2000 cd in the cd drive when restarting but that either does nothing or doesn't work. i don't have emergency repair disks, nor can i make them i think, as this computer im on now runs windows 98. it really doesn't make sense to me that the hard drive would just die, could a power surge do that? even then, i have my computer hooked up to a powerbar with surge protection. how can i fix this??

boot with the windowsdisk and go to recovery mode type fixmbr and fixboot and restart that should fix it, if that does not work, chances are your hard drive is fucked.

try putting in your win2k cd, boot to it, choose the recovery concole option, then try chkdsk /r
We have had that work on computers with that error. |

go into your bios and make sure your cdrom is set to first boot device, then a screen will come up saying press a key to boot from cd. Do that, then goto recovery console

"i don't even know how to go into my bios"
Depends on the make of system, but in most pressing F2 while booting will take you into bios mode |

try those two first, they will go quicker then the option that I said
you will first have to type a admin password, or hit enter if you do no have a password. select you windows install which is usually #1, and then type fixboot and then hit enter, then fix mbr then enter. restart and see if it works. If not, then do the same process and try chkdsk /r |

im guessing this is supposed to take hours? i notice it will get up to 5% then go to 0% then get up to 9% and go back to 0%. is that normal? thanks for all the help, btw. if nothing else hopefully all info on it can be recovered if this doesn't work. though i would of thought if the HD is fucked then i wouldn't of been able to write a new boot sector on it.
