Dated a chick who took Celexa back in 99. I took them for about 2 weeks just to see. I lost the ability to orgasm. No good, my friend. Have a jog around the park, you'll feel like a million bucks, I swear.

I'm on Effexor.. It works ok but I feel like the combo of Welbutrin and Effexor I was on before was better. But, I could probably get off them if I lived somewhere sunny all the time and actually spent plenty of time outside in the sun. Also, I just saw something last night where someone was diagnosed as having depression but it turns out it was their sleep. They had apnia (sp?) and once that person got on a breather machine at night, all the problems they were having went away. I know I have sleep problems as well so maybe that's what I actually need as opposed to the damn drugs.

Sleep apnea. Its actually pretty common and it can cause a variety of problems. The short is, you stop breathing in your sleep, then your body wakes you up, you catch your breath and you do it all over again. Some people stop breathing hundreds of times a night and never get a healthy night of sleep. It runs in my family.

If you want to look into it you'll need a sleep study done.

Same thing happened with me and ambien...and then sort of the same thing happened with lunesta, it doesn't PUT me to sleep but it keeps me asleep once i get there. so now i take clonzopan which calms me down enough to sleep, and the lunesta keeps me there. for right now at least, it's a good combination.

and for the person who says they tried zoloft for two days - it takes weeks for that stuff to start working...

Juicy,

I think we have similar problems with anxiety and depression. I am going through hell right now after getting off of paxil which I had been on for 6 years.

I found this site the other night that might be helpful. May testimonials from users of all of the antidepressants and anxiety drugs. http://www.remedyfind.com/HealthConditions/32/

Hope this helps.

I lost one of the best friend/lovers I've ever had to Zoloft.

First ... a non-Psychiatric related doctor prescribed the antidepressant following minor heart surgery, she later told me.
(why? what other treatment was to follow? how was her original problem to be overcome? when is enough enough? getting OFF Zoloft can cause severe depression)

Second ... She started to gain weight. This is a recognized side effect. 30 lbs the first six months. An additional 50-60 over the next year. Behavior and outlook on life started to change.

Result ... A model beautiful, well dressed, MBA with a great job, out-going 29 year old turned into a depressed because she's fat, chain-smoker to curb appetite, heavy drinker because she's depressed, slut to prove she is still desirable, lost her job and is now under employed due to her frumpy looks and unsociability.

At this time we haven't talked in almost two years, she makes up stories to mutual friends, has seen a string of losers go thru her, has never seen a qualified member in the Psychiatric field. Why her general practitioner prescribed Zoloft in the first place is unknown, her dumb-ass father told me it was for a heart problem and to leave her alone. I do.

I also think about her at least once a day, in the same way you think about someone close that has died.

Cowboy-up motherfucker, face your problem head-on, fuck Zoloft and related drugs.

Actually it's clonazepam, generic for klonopin. I take it a few times a day along with some other meds due to a bad back. (two herniated discs, one very bad L5/S1). It gives me crazy dreams at night. I can't wait till they take me off all these meds....

With excessive weight gain being a major side effect and 25 million users of Zoloft alone, you have to wonder how many anti-depression drug users make up Americas obesity problem?

From what I have read this weight is a result of the bodies change in metabolism and is very hard if not impossible to loose even after the drug use is stopped.

Daruma, you would not believe the physical difference in just a year. This has to make the user even more depressed. Thanks for your comment.

Juicy,

I'm still on Effexor but I think I've kicked the Ativan habit as far as needing it for sleep. All I had liquid hit my pill bottle and be in Holland. But surprising, aside from having to work through some minor anxiety, I have been sleeping fine. Amazing for a chronic insomniac! Maybe you need a change of pace?

I was on a lot of stuff, including Xanax. I pulled myself off them a couple years ago as it really effected my life. I didn't have control over my emotions and felt that pills were controlling how I lived. I've found a lot of other ways to deal with anxiety and other things and have actually found that I feel much better.

If anyone suffers from problems with sleeping and anxiety, I highly recommend working out. I'm not kidding, kicking your ass in the gym for an hour a day will do wonders for your body. You'll be tired as hell before bed, and the ass kicking in the gym frees your mind and killed most of the anxiety I would have. I'm not talking about some light jogging, I'm talking about going hardcore and working yourself to the limits. It sucks at first, but you start to love it after awhile.

I took Prozac for six months. That was no good- too sleepy all the time. And it only worked on the depression a bit.

Then I took Cymbalta. For about two years. Terrible sexual side effects- lost the ability to orgasm. Nausea too. But it worked very well on the depression.

I'm now trying an interesting combination instead of the Cymbalta:

1. St. John's Wart supplements (0.3% Hypericin)
2. Cognitive therapy (from the David Burns' "Feeling Good" book)
3. The Russian "spanking therapy" (really!) Now they have started referring to it as "whipping therapy", but it's really gentler than that word implies.

All I can say is that it seems to be working great. The cognitive therapy stuff is really mind-opening- I think it's the only way to "cure" depression.

The "spank therapy" works surprisingly well. I was thinking of putting a website together about it, and I would if I could figure out how to make a bit of money to reimburse my time.

I was on Effexor a few years back . I felt like I was constantaly wired ... However it did help ... I think I stayed on it for 3 - 6 months . though it was hard to get off it..

Be very careful with anti depressant drugs bro, they can be very addictive

My Dr. tried me on some a few years ago for migraines:

Efflexor - nothing
Prozac - MADE me depressed

Now he's trying things for "situational depression". Personally I don't see how a pill's going to work and I have an appointment Monday to hopefully stop taking the Lexapro. Tried Zoloft - gave me migraines, Cymbalta - made me sleep, Wellbutrin XR (or whatever) and after 2 weeks, got dizzy about once every couple of hours.

Unless you're chemically depressed, I don't see how drugs can help. But I did ASK him for something so he was doing what he thought was right.

I'd believe it. I lived through it.

Nothing about it is pretty, and you are correct, it's a snowball effect in terms of depression.

Cowboy-up motherfucker, face your problem head-on, fuck Zoloft and related drugs.
ouch, that's probably a typical anti-depressant story there... just start working out, start eating healthy and you'll be fine....

Something here that has to be acknowledged is that antidepressants should really only be used when there is an actual chemical imbalance in the brain, otherwise you might as well do any drug that gives you the feeling of relief.
they all have some sort of side effects mostly sexual or weight issues.this will increase if it is not the right one or that you just got problems and medication is not the answer.most doctors will tell you if there is harsh side effects discontinue use and maybe try a different med.Sometimes xanax works well for high stress.one thing to keep in mind is that every med is gonna work diff. for each person if it doesnt work change if that doesn't work then get off the meds and try something else.DO NOT WAIT till you have worse problems! You can live happily if your situation is right, with little side effects with the right meds.
