Did anyone hear about gov't cutting down internet speeds?

Was speaking to a friend today who said he heard on the news that yesterday the government actually imposed a cut on internet speeds from ISPs. He wasn't sure what the numbers are but didn't the web feel slower to you guys since yesterday? Not every site but some that I frequent alot do seem slower. Maybe just my fiber optic acting up but what a coincidence.

Just wondering if anyone heard anything or knows anything.

This is the same bullshit as te fabled "modem tax".

If your fiber isn't working right, try taking off the end, and sucking out the bits that got stuck.

nope, my speed is actually a little faster in the past few weeks

trust me, if they decided the internet needed to be slower, it would be ALL over the news

how would they handle large server networks? what about people that run offices from home?

there are too many factors to weigh in, someone is fucking with you, big time.

They do that here in the Philippines to track illegal VOIP usage. I'm not sure if they do that to crack down on webcam operations (known locally as "cybersex dens") though.

actually your friend is partly right..

The u.s. was/is planning to limit speeds for some reason i cant remember why.. it was a bit more complex than simply turning the internet amplifier down to "9" though and it didnt sound very realistic

I like when people say "The Government" and "They"

Who's govenment?

Most free countries would never pass a law to slow down the internet.

I heard that Bush has a cool personal software. With few clicks he can control the speeds, domains and so on. Even webcams.

Sound like BS, if anything they will just keep the levels close for the dsl providers for competition reasons.

Meaning one can't go to high untill the other can keep up.
