Server Load - 1.05 <----what is that #?

I just checked and my server load is at 1.05

how high does # go?

it is a dual xeon server, is 1.05 high?

nevermind, figured it out

1.0 is basically 100%

with a dual xeon I can be there pretty safely

Depending on what you do, a server can run at 20 load and still not be shitty.

yeah, that is what I have been reading

it is a pretty beefy machine too, dual xeons 2gb ram

from what I can tell as long as it isn't a constant load of 10-20, I should be fine

your server load should not be above 1.00 (per processor core)

so if you have a dual xeon, anything under 2.00 is optimal.

yeah, we launched our video encoding systems last month and at had some issues where we were getting loads of 58 and above. I'd really never seen a server load like that before.

Is it not a measure of process loads, meaning that there is no waiting queue if the load is <1 (all processes are served immediately), while the delays increase with loads above 1?

I have had loads around 40-50 before during peak times, but with some optimization I was able to decrease it to 5-8.

I've seen 200+ on a server that is about to die, swapping to hell and back. It took a couple of mins between typing the cmd and seeing the output.

I had a dual xeon server with 4 gb ram in it hit 85, i had to wait 5 minutes to even get a root prompt to check what the hell was going on.
