Who does NOT prefer LCD over CRT and why?

i just bought a 19" square LCD and really dont like it.
why?
it's too big. the resolution only goes to 1280x1024. This makes icons appear as big as quarters and the font appear to be for people with special needs.
When i look at the center of the screen, the left and right edges are very noticable while the top and bottom I can't see. This makes the screen appear narrow.
Lastly, I can see all these little dots that make up images and fonts.

however, i do like the softness of the screen and the low footprint.

who else?

I just got a 24' Benq widescreen and am loving the fuck out of it. Took a couple of days to get used to but my old CRT looks like garbage to me now in comparison.

Triple 19" CRTs here

total real estate is 3072 x 768

it's the bomb for photoshop and dreamweaver, and I can still have my tools, IMs, Winamp, and server monitor software open on it's own screen

LCD is poor for high res designing -- even the Tru-Brite screens make photoshop look WEIRD.

I do for the above reasons plus CRT's last decades longer than LCD's.

LOL, i use a 19" LCD @ 1024*768
can go up to 1920*1200, but fuck that shit, it's way too small for me

i like to lean back in my chair, with this setting i can read everything easily

it's connected with DVI, not sure if it makes that much difference for image/font quality

I prefer LCD, and the seeing the pixels that make up the images is a good thing when doing designs. You'll know how it really is. Even small 'errors' can be seen that can't with CRT.

About 40 - 50 centimeters. Using it for working mainly - it's nice to be able to have heaps of things open and on screen all at once too. Would like to play games on it but my 6800Gt isn't up to gaming at 1920 x 1200.

I use a 19" LCD and it is alot easier on my eyes than a CRT.
My secondary monitor is a 19" CRT..

I would say that the CRT looks alot better for certain things.. certain older photographs and things of that nature. Also you can see the CRT from any angle without the picture washing out when you look at it from the side for example.

Ever been on the phone looking through a drawer and tried to read some text from an LCD above you? Ahhhh

If I had to pick one I'd keep the LCD.

If you have a CRT make sure your refresh rate is set to at least 85hz so you don't get eyestrain and headaches.

I'm thinking about picking up two of these to go with my 8800 GTS vid card. Are they any good?

I was also thinking of picking up two of these instead of the ones I posted before. But these range the 500-dollar price tag, instead of the 300-dollar range of the previous.

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/de...ries/vx2025wm/

Another downside is that they have an 8ms response time, but I doubt I'll ever play something with more than 100 fps.

I use LCD monitors a lot because I move them around quite a bit, was much easier on back. But for pure design and image quality CRT is greater by a long shot. LCD will never have as good as image quality as a CRT. The SED monitors (due out sometime in 07 or 08) will be the 'natural' replacement to a CRT monitor. Until then... ugh.

at first i didn't like my 19" lcd either but it only took a day to get used to it. be sure to adjust the brightness and maybe even the color. also when i swtiched to 1280x1024 my fonts adjusted with it so you might have to adjust your font size as well.

my CRT (which is sitting on the floor presently) can go up to 2000 something using the same v.card.

on the box for this LCD it says "max resolution 1280x1024"

I just moved to LCD and I hate the way it makes text look. Apparently it's because my video card can't handle the 1440 x 900 resolution needed. What's odd is I have higher than that as a choice but not that exact resolution. I like what it does for graphics and the additional space but the text is killing me.

I love my LCD monitor and my LCD TV!

1280x1024 looks just fine on my 19" LCD monitor. *shrug*

I'm no professor on the subject, but I think that if your monitor is 1440x900, that's the only resolution you can use on it, no matter what your video card supports.

My laptop has a 17" 1440x900 "native" resolution. Anything other than that and it looks like complete shit.

i believe so as well.

another way to make the screen look like shit is to set the resolution to a number that is not a factor of the native resolution.

i'm on an older 21" CRT, which i like more than the same size LCD.

my fiance uses a 24" widescreen LCD from dell, he says he likes the extra room but he liked his old 21" flat screen CRT a lot more. he got the LCD when it died.

dual 19 LCD 2560x1024. CRTs fuck your eyes and having all those electrons beamed into your head cant be good for you. I have a friend with a 60hertz twitch. I swear he got it from sitting too close to a 21inch sony CRT.

Pro's and con's like anything. My 21" CRT flat screen was my favorite monitor ever...it just looked good no matter what. But it and all my other CRT's have died..and I'm on LCD's. Less space and radiation now, and the picture on the new ones are pretty good if all the specs line up correctly with your machine, graphics card, and monitor.
