Google Myths

I am always reading bullshit replies and threads about linking sites that have the same Class C IP range or similiar IPs. THIS IS A MYTH! The only thing that matters is content... if you have a bunch of sites that are exactly the same then YES YOU WILL BE PENALIZED... but having lots of sites on the same ip does not matter. It's common.... A bunch of fake tgps are not considered duplicate content typically because if you use alt tags and rotate the galleries then it's statistically impossible to have the exact same content.

Don't believe me? Listen to GoogleGuy (Matt Cutts) tell you then.

Don't know who GoogleGuy is? Refer to google search results.

"in general, if you're a average webmaster this is something I wouldn't really worry about"

He says you shouldn't be worried meaning(I think) the sites won't be deleted from the index or anything like that but I think google will see links coming from other ip's as more valuable than links coming from the same ip.

He specifically mentioned 5 or 6 sites would be ok. He also said 2000 was way too many. I wonder what the line really is. I am running a couple hundred, is that too many?

From the same IP will be given as much value as as internal link. About

Consider the source, Matt Cutts works for Google, not for webmasters. Take into interest the fact that his comments influence webmasters to not practice spam techniques, it doesn't necessarily mean they're true. Disinformation is quite a powerful way to convince the masses to keeping their sites clean. Always experiment for yourself and don't take Matt's word for things as his interest is his loyalty to Google, not to your bottom line.

There are too many sheep that listen and don't research.

You just have to read the website, it says the i.p. does not matter.

http://www.google.com/support/webmas...37&ctx=sibling

Not too mention I know several top listed webmasters and none try to cheat the search engines. Not one. And since we are top listed we do talk about it.

Anyways people will only do what they want, so feel free to pay a couple extra bucks a month for a i.p. or more for multiple class c's but really you are throwing your money away unless you need a dedicated i.p. for ssl or program testing.

That sounds pretty clear. If you are one of the first two its ok but if not it sucks.

This would only affect you if all the sites you have on the same host are targetting the same term. Or if you want to listen to people who sell SEO hosting.

No one from GWH has ever disputed that, but actually it is a little deeper than the same term, it is more like the same theme.

But you can definitely put multiple sites on the same IP if you are not interlinking or dealing with the same topic.

ie: If you have 5 sites, one on cars, one on dogs, one on apples, one on stereos, and one on mortgages, and you aren't linking them together you can put them on the same IP.

Silly, so you saying of the couple hundred sites on a server there might be so many with the exact terms of your website that are top listed that they will get you kicked off the front page of Google?

The odds of that are about 1/10000000000

Think about it. I wouldn't pay 10 cents to insure that.
