this daily hotlinker site

I get referrals from this (daily?) site all the time. Usually the recognizable sites on it have .htaccess enabled. But I noticed today that there are a few sites that have full-size pictures being hotlinked. It's worth it to check and make sure you're not on it.

It's not all porn either ; there are pictures of muslim clerics on the list too. Pretty weird.

there are literally 1000's of these sites. just use your server stats to keep an eye on it - there's really no point in searching through specific pages.

that doesn't work with mpeg files. there are other ways, though none are ideal.

I have my MPEG's on hotlink protection quiet. It works very well using a cookie method. Basically, if the surfer doesn't have your Movie gallery (or page, whatever) open, and he tries to download a movie directly (from a hotlinker page), he will be sent to any site you want.

This anti movie hotlinking protection made my b/w drop from 30mbps to 7Mbps.

Just pics
I wouldn't worry too much
easy to prevent and it won't use much bandwidth
It'll get worse when they hotlink your movies like they do with me
But it's not hard to get them shut down.
I got phatforums.com to pay my bandwidth back and I got a big one on Ifrance.com shut down last week.

I had my host do something to protect my MPEGs.

like i said, they're are other methods, but none are ideal. we been using a script to rename files (on a limited basis) on a couple of sites. does the trick as well. still pretty lame though. damn windows media player ;)

we found it is much easier to simply go after the top 500 hotlinkers ranked by bw usage. Like SR said, it is *very* easy to shut these sites down. It's also very satisfying :)

We've shut down over 1000. Those that stay below the bw 'radar' aren't worth the time, and are ignored.
