I was getting it left and right, sometimes as many as 200 in a day.

My thoughts were that they are spamming penny stocks, which they have a some money in. Once the spam takes effect they dump their stocks at a profit and then the penny stock goes back to worth next to nothing yet again.
Could be wrong since I did not look into it at all though.

The tips you are getting are for so called penny stocks, these type of stocks have a very high fluctuation. If one person buys for 50000$ of these stocks they could rise with 60% for example. That is why these companies send out massive spam for their stocks, just hoping to find some investors to buy their shares so they can dump them and make a huge amount of cash on them.

Penny stocks are risky stocks listed on the OTCBB or the pink sheets and belong to unstable companies who are most of the time on the edge of bankruptcy. Stocks can climb with 10000% in a day or drop with 99% on a day.

So now you know why you are getting this spam.

dont think that the late 1990's stock market was "good" time because it was a bubble that burst. according to the stock market historical average in the last 3 months it has done outstanding. slow steady growth from a low point. thats how the market should work.
