Whats your screen res?

Whenever I design a site - paysite for example - I aim for it to fit nicely into the average 800 by 600 resolution screen - however, I am in the process of designing a site for adult webmaster - not the mainstream surfer,

So whats everyone heres screen resolution set at?

The 22-inch (diagonal) Apple Cinema Display offers a panoramic view ? wide enough to see as much as two full A4-size pages of text, with ample space left over for your menus, video clips, tool bars and palettes.

With a resolution of 1600-by-1024 pixels, the Apple Cinema Display delivers twice the brightness, twice the sharpness, and twice the contrast of ordinary displays. And it gives you an enormous workspace ? great for graphics and video.

Although I run 6 pcs for obvious reasons, my mac will always be the better machine.

I have duel monitors so I design in 1024x768 or higher depending on how much shit I have open and I have the other monitor set on 800x600 to check my work to see that it fits in all window sizes.

Design it so it fits into 800*600 horizontally. Many adult webmasters still use 800*600. Keep it longer vertically so it does not look small to the high rez users.

Here's a site I recently made using that method, looks good on most resolutions I think -

1024x768

but since you'd be designing paysites, you'd be designing for the wankers. keep it 800x600 to be safe.. or do a liquid design but be sure it works at 800x600 good enough as well..

For the adult webmaster I'd make it to look good in 1024 BUT make sure it's actually viewable and useable in 800 just to be safe.

No kidding. I have a 17 inch monitor and use 800x600.
I tried going to the next highest resolution and had a blinding headache after a few hours. Everything is so tiny.

1280x768 on a 17" display. The blinding headache for sure is from the refresh rate. Set it on 85Hz at least and you won't have problems.

"Most" designers don't bother checking there work with Nutscape. I have that thingie in my try also.
I went 2 someone's TGP (Had an awsome looking page) from this board and thought I'd have the designers do
some work for me. Before I contacted I checked there home page with Nutscape 4.7x and it was a fucked up
mess. Looked great with IE... So I gave them an email. In a nut shell they told me most people use IE. they get a lot of work, and also told me to get IE, the people they design for make a lot of money with there designs. Well I thought, what kind of design company is this? I did not tell them I was thinking about having them do some work for me.. I just moved on...

I've seen this companies name pop up almost every time someone ask about TGP design. They won't get any of my $$ period....

At least 5% of the internet population is using netscape.
My rule of thumb - design the page for IE, but at least make sure someone with netscape is able to view your site.

If a designer can't get the .html to display in netscape they are not very good.

...your site looks good on my 600 x 800, but bro...you should really consider bolding some of that text...and using headlines and subheadlines. As the text is, it sort of just blends into the back ground, and nothing catches the readers eye or pulls them through the copy. A few subheadlines and bolding a few key benifits would make a world of difference to your site.

(you also might want to chill with the ! after every sentance...kinda screems H-Y-P-E)

Just sayin, not dissin.

We did a survey a few years back and found that most serious webmasters usually have at least a 19" monitor and run it at minimum 1024 x 768.

We also discovered that anyone running anything less as a webmaster obviously hasn't got a clue what they are doing and are not making enough money to buy the larger screen. Thus meaning that, who cares if they can read your shit.
