Zango ain't shit! Major adware programs shipped ON the brand new pc i bought

I just bought a brand new toshiba laptop, guess what it came bundled with?

more adaware than you could ever imagine.

after i gutted all the oem shit out of it i ran spybot and adaware. i cannot believe the shit that these laptp and desktop manufacturers install on machines and send to people. if you think that these companies do not smell your traffic straight out of the box, its time to wake up. here are just a few of them.

mediaplex
doubleclick
cydor
and a host of others. this is before the laptop even touched the internet.

even fucking ebay tracking adware and 3 browser hijackers were found.

just wait till the mainstream companies start straightup hijacking adult affiliate traffic right out of the box.

zango is a harmless old man with a stick compared to what is possible in the future. this doesn't mean that i don't think that zango is dangerous, but if the big corporations that manufacture your products are willing to take money to ship you adware, spyware and other shit, what makes you think they won't do other things that are "legal" that we in adult consider unethical, like "legal" installs that some adult companies already do?

big corporations could give a fuck about what adult affiliates think of them.

i guess toshiba gives a big fuck you to their customers. i shoulda taken screen shots. i mainly ran the spybot and adaware to see how many of the shithead upsell software programs that i unistalled were calling home to reinstall when i rebooted. instead i found all of this adware and shit.

i was like wtf?

think of the money the manufacturer made from all those advertisers, and they got you to pay for the laptop too.
they got paid twice on one machine.
nice business.

fuck no. zango isn't something i am excited about either. i am merely saying that this shit is just starting. in a few more years i predict way more of this zangesque kinda crap. sooner or later those things will ship too. control the traffic control the world. i'm not a rocket scientist, just attempting to be logical about the evolution of the net. thanks to the increase in exposure and spotlight on adult sites, there are people who are going to cash in that you will never meet at tradeshows or even be able to yell at on gfy.

if i need a tinfoil hat please point it out, lets just not be naive and think that there won't be other zangos that will be supported at the manufaturer level.

why would you need some dimwit to download something when they get it shipped right to them?

exactly

i gave it a lobotomy already and now is clean as a whistle. many consumers are not that tech saavy and will be stuck with whatever their "trusted" manufacturer puts on their machine.

Just starting? These programs have been around for years. Five years or so ago you had a handful of them, now there are over 400!

Dell used to bundle their computers with crap until all their customers started calling the help line. Most of their time was spent helping customers get rid of the shit their brand new computer came with. They smartened up fast.

Toshiba is not going to last long either if they start doing the same thing. Makes you wonder if your computer is really brand new sometimes.

i didn't mention that we shouldn't cash in on anything. i am basically saying don't think that zango is the only devil that is going to climb into our cozy little adult space bed and cuddle with ben franklin. this has always been a ME ME ME environment for as long as i can remember. this business has three kinds of people.

1- the completely honest

2- the ones who will smile to your face and do shit to take your money

3- and the straight up digital thug criminals that pilfer everyone

thats not going to change.

you choose your type that you're going to be based on who you are as a person and if you can sleep at night existing in the category that you choose.

"just starting" i guess is dependant on your perspective of the start and finish of what we're discussing. the net is extremely young compared to other methods of commerce. it is just beginning. in 15 years where is this whole hijacking, cookie overwriting, traffic redirecting, affil id changing, adware, spyware, malware, ransomware and much more crap gonna be? fighting fires in the heat of the moment i.e. zango at this time can really have you think short term and in the "now". web commerce is a baby still.

i guess thats where i am trying to come from. i am knowledgeable about what you pointed out. thats why i didn't buy a dell.

i bought the toshiba because i had another satellite for 5 years and it was awesome. fool me once i guess applies here.

I see what you're saying. But I think I tend to somewhat disagree that it's just starting. With any hope, it's on its way out.

Several years ago when there were only a handful, it was annoying to get popups and get hit by driveby downloads. But most free spyware removers got the job done to catch it and remove it. The worst was CoolWebSearch and there was a good free tool to take care of it that still exists today.

Now with 400+ of them, and so many bundles of so many programs that all get installed via the same driveby, it totally destroys computers because right there and then, the computer is unusable. One adware application alone is annoying but it doesn't hurt the computer, or not that much (like zango), depending on which one of course. It's hard to remove on your own, impossible for a newbie, but you don't have to buy a brand new computer. But get 2 or more at the same time, and now the fun really starts.

With trojans, keyloggers and phishing sites that steal your personal information and turn your computer into a spambot or used to launch DDOS attacks, the law is starting to crack down on some of these applications.

Not only because the consumer is starting to scream LOUDER, but because now there's big money involved, financial institutions are starting to care more. And that's not only in North America, it's all over the world.

The louder everyone screams, the more noise we ALL make about these programs, the more attention it will get.

You get hit with a driveby download? Note the company on the ad and contact your news channels about it and local newspapers. Once big companies start making the news and their names get associated with stuff that fuck up people's computers, the bad publicity will hurt their business offline as much as it will online.

You bought a brand new Toshiba comp with crap already preinstalled? Man I would have turned their world upside down!!!

There are so many things we can ALL do to help get rid of them. Those who cry that there's nothing that can be done, let them rot. When the rest of us who make noise on a continuous basis to get somewhere some day, they'll thank us for it even though they never lifted a finger to help the fight.

I remember the Sony I bought about 2-3 years ago came with some rather gnarly shit out of the box...

Been doing Dell since then, and they're systems are relatively clean... but old habits die hard, much like all of us I'm sure, and first thing I always do is format and resetup to my specs.

As for less tech savvy "surfers", and the multitudes of computers that will be released upon the market with more and more malicious software "legally" attached... Looks like we are going to have to all learn to be much more proactive with our countermeasures. Get the best scripts in place to keep our traffic in place, and keep pressure on companies to stay ethical in their business practices.

Ha! I joked earlier today without even clicking the thread "It's probably a piece of shit toshiba"

Just this past January or so, I went through 3 toshibas! Yes, 3! Each one of them same damn thing. Just loaded with shit that was slowing it down, popping up crap constantly. Couldn't get anything really off of it and all I could do is system restore and it was still loaded, just wouldn't crash. Then they'd die. Just dead and wouldn't turn on. I'd have to drive an hour away and turn it in for a new one.

The third time it happened I told them bullshit that I'm trading it in for ANOTHER... I want a HP. This one has been great for me.

Damn A1R3K.. that's some shit! I never would have thought that would happen but now that I'm processing it all, I guess it makes sense. I suppose they're saying to themselves something had to give with all the price competition and rediculous rebates they're giving these days. The public is going to have a hayday, eventually, when all this really comes out.

Umm, have you considered that it may be (a) a local Best Buy employee making coin, (b) Bestbuy as a company making coin, or (c) if you machine was ever out of the box, someone loading it up to make a profit?

I don't think that toshiba would intentionally load malware.

Bake, you know that those seals are usually bypassed at the store, right? They often leave the main seal, but work around it from the other end.

My Aunt bought a new PC from Best Buy and it had that virus that shuts down the PC after 30 or 40 seconds. It was brand new and the Best Buy people did the set up..

So that could likely be the issue you had..

yeah i see your perspective totally. i was really pissed. had i not been someone who knows how to get rid of it, i would have been fucking livid. i am all about being the squeky wheel too. i've got a huge mouth on the guba thing, the .xxx thing and a bunch more things, so i def appreciate and respect the squeaky wheel and as far as that goes, carrying along on my back the people who can't or won't stand up for themselves.

p.s. missie, just read your post again. coolwebsearch was on here too.

the machine was in a toshiba sealed box and definietly not used at the store or even turned on as far as i can tell. i don't think best buy has the ability to set a machine unconfigured where even windows needed to be configured. this was def a factory load.

I doubt very much you had a brand new computer if you had CWS and Cydoor already preinstalled. Haven't heard anything about cydoor for a very long time, didn't even know it still existed or you could still get it. Toshiba is a big company, I can't believe they would be so dumb. If you had something like Gator/Claria, Ebates, WhenU or Zango, then, yes, possibly, but not all of them at the same time. But CWS?? Cydoor?? Nah....

Takes about an hour just to remove all the extra crap software that comes installed on a pc these days.

Don't blame Toshiba, blame Best Buy. goodgirl and I both got ours from Toshiba, it may have cost more, but we did not have the crap you are dealing with.

looks like you got a lot of shit anyway.

This is pretty depressing. Seems like they fucking you every which way, yet we have sponsors here who want to cash in on this while they can instead of trying to help us fight it.

Spyware will eventuall steal all sales, no one will advertise because they lose money doing it. No one will buy adds, all the sites that sell traffic will colapse, including google, who can afford to pay for ads when you dont get any sales. So with no one advertising, the spyware will go under because there will be no one to steal sales from. Even the SE's will go under because no one making money from their ads, they wont make any money. The internet will implode.

You have to remember too.... often networks at places like Bestbuy have active viruses or trojans on them, and any new system that gets attached to their network gets attacked pretty much immediately. if you let them even turn the computer on in the store (or they do the "setup" for you) you will almost certainly pick something up.

Scumware sucks.

yeah i didnt do that. this was in a sealed box right from the toshiba factory with the packing and sealed microsoft labels on the machine itself where you have to break the bag to get it out to even turn it on. whatever was on this maschine came from toshiba 100%. best buy had not opened it. now, if best buy and toshiba have a deal then thats a diff thing. i am sure that they only install the 30 day trials to office and the shitty xp so best buy can upsale you like they did VERY aggressively. to the point where i got pissed about their sales tactics.

this pc came from toshiba with the scumware on it. cydor was the one that pissed me off the most.

It's not that much different than shipping laptops with Yahoo toolbars and forcing IE and MSN Messenger to run on startup. This is just one more step in a progression.

Another note about your average laptop consumer:

My boyfriend reformatted his mother's Acer laptop for her, gave her a slimmed down version of Windows, and was careful to not re-install the Acer CD.

She complained, saying that she wanted it back to how it came from the store, thinking it wasn't complete until the Acer Recovery Disc and Acer Software Bundle were installed.
