I just decided to try and use this and honestly have no idea where to start....is there a reasonable tutorial to create a simple site thjen building on it to add more functiinality and stuff?

the documentation seems somewhat lacking on even the basic how to start

start clicking around in the admin. change some of the news flashes etc.. use google to find more help. add some compents and templates from joomlahacks.com. I am leaning it myself there is so much it aint easy. i just had some templates made form joomlancers.com

jReviews is probably the best Joomla component I've ever used.

There's a book out that you can probably even find on bittorrent, but it's not very well written or detailed. But, if you need a bit of a kick start and some offline reading, it could help.

Give yourself a few days and just keep working with it. Change things and see what it does. The best way to learn is by actually doing things, not reading... go look stuff up when you're stuck with a specific question

Just remember that components DO things behind the scenes, modules DISPLAY things (including the output of components), and menus create links to reveal pages/sections of content.
