Sure. At least then you'll have the added benefit of having checks and balances and a system setup to ensure accountability for its actions.

Mmm... na. Screw Spamhaus and all government messing. If governments want to create antispam laws - fine. The last thing the net needs is a govt body deciding whether to block IP's - they can hardly run a government, nevermind the net.

It took forever to prove to them that I wasn't a spammer and I had just been given the block of IPs by AT&T. I don't think some private mom and pop organization should have that much power.
Totally agree, Spamhaus act as judge, jury and executioner with no appeal system and then say they only list IPs they think are spamming. When a court finds against them they ignore the court.

Seems they could not or did not bother to defend in court and now face the prospect of losing their business or at least damaging it. Nice when the executioner gets the chop.

Fuck those immature scammers. I hope they rot and cry about it.

On the other hand, I don't want it to happen to ME, ha.

Actually ICANN will be totally independant by 2011, with the US gradually giving it more freedom starting in 2008. Of course then the Euros will get their way and get that .XXX thing passed. So careful what you wish for.

I'm not wishing for much Gator - whoever is in control will eventually screw it up - that's as sure as death and taxes.

Sure the US govt has said they wish to release ICANN as a private entity - but that is not what other countries want. They are already planning to have their own country TLD's managed by an international org with all countries represented within this organization - not by ICANN or a private entity.

There are moves to make this happen - after the breaking of an agreement which was due to pass ICANN over on 30th Sept this year and doubt they care about timescales quoted by the US govt.

You may remember.. last year there were threats to pull cable from data centres unless this was not resolved quickly. It was stalled on 11th hour and could possibly be on the table again.

PS.. Na.. Europe has expressed zero interest in having .xxx TLD's, but there is the usual tendency to want to control everything much the same as US does at the moment. The bigger a govt/org gets - the more they come up with total crap to screw stuff up - the EU will be no different.
