Which came first?

The chicken or the egg? Seriously, have you ever considered that question?

The egg. At the point the genetics of the bird changed into what we today call a chicken it would have been born from an egg.

that strain of ooze that would evolve in to the chicken species began its reproductive process from an early primordal ooze point and has evolved ever since. whatever stage that ooze was in when it held the land for the first time and left the liquid would be technically first. everything else has been a process of evolution.

Don't know, don't care, but they both taste pretty good. Here's a question for you. What's healthier the 4-winged 4-legged chicken they mass produce for KFC or the new and improved 6-winged 6-legged chicken? This is why I don't eat chicken wings anymore.

well, honestly, now that the urban myth angle has been thrown out there, I'm starting to feel very easily swayed by propoganda... of which I can never be sure anymore... *madmans ravings* ( that reminds me... whatever happened to amadman here?)

anyways, it's been said that they have been genetically altering chickens to have them grow with no head, and multiple extemities... and multiple breasts... just made to eat, basically.. they never move from their nest... don't think they could if they wanted to... don't think they could want to (no head, and all that).

Now, I am old enough to know that the whole urban myth defense is just another form of propoganda, so maybe it is all true ;)

i'd say the chicken. the question is "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" it implies that they mean "which came first, the chicken or the chicken egg?" - otherwise, it would obviously be the egg since there were eggs long before there were chickens.

i personally believe that in order to call an egg a "chicken egg" it has to come out of a chicken. since not all chicken eggs become chickens ("stillborn?", etc) it wouldn't make sense to call an egg a chicken egg unless it came out of a chicken (since you can't know what it will become with 100% certainty).

therefore, the chicken came first, since it hatched out of an egg that came from whatever chickens evolved from.

i need a life.

we come from eggs too! so what's the difference in asking what came first the human or the egg?
the only difference in the process --the way i see it-- is a hen incubates her egg externally and all the nutrients are self contained within that cell. (an unfertilized egg is on single cell the yoke being the nucleus)
where as homosapien females incubate and feed their eggs from within.

hmmmm...........

no problem
here is another little tid bit of info that might help in your discussion:

Did you know that a pullet (baby hen) when hatched is --preloaded-- with all the eggs it will ever lay in it's whole life.

No,

Depending on your beliefs,
the chicken with it's eggs inside evolved or was created all at the same instance in time........

Actually, this question is more anthropological than evolutionary, since the chicken (Gallus domesticus) didn't exist until its domestication around 2000 BC in Indochina. The first chicken came from the first chicken egg, which was laid by a red junglefowl (Gallus gallus). Whether you argue creation or evolution, the fact that humanity predates and is responsible for the speciation of chickens from red junglefowl should lay the "chicken or the egg" question to rest. From an evolutionary perspective, this answer holds for all species: the first member(s) of any species were the offspring of another very similar species, i.e. evolution argues that the egg always comes first. From a creationist perspective, this answer is anomalous, since all species that predate humanity originated as adults around 4004 BCE, i.e. creationism argues that the red junglefowl came before the red junglefowl egg.
