CITGO's Low Cost Heating Oil Program From the Venezuelan Heart to the U.S. Hearths CITGO Petroleum Corporation is distributing heating oil at discounted prices this winter as part of an initiative aimed at helping poor communities in areas of the country most affected by cold winters. The initial program was launched in communities in the Boston area and in the Bronx, in New York City. The first phase of the program, in Boston, will offer up to 12 million gallons of heating oil with discounts from market prices. The value of these discounts is nearly $10 million at current market prices. This initiative has been made possible with the full support of CITGO's parent company, Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), the state oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. In New York, CITGO is providing up to 8 million gallons of discounted heating oil, which will mean savings in the millions of dollars. In Maine, CITGO will provide 8 million gallons of heating oil at 40 percent discount to low -income families. This aid is also assisting homeless shelters and four Native American Tribes. In Rhode Island, CITGO will provide 3.3 million gallons of discounted home heating oil to low-income families, homeless shelters and community clinics. In Pennsylvania, CITGO is providing 5 million gallons of heating oil at 40 percent discount that will benefit as many as 25,000 low-income families in the Philadelphia region. In Vermont, CITGO is providing 2.4 million gallons of Venezuelan oil to low-income Vermonters at a 40 percent discount, with an additional 108,000 gallons going to homeless shelters for free. In Delaware, CITGO will distribute 1 million gallons of heating oil to low-income residents at a 40 percent discount; this will benefit about 5,000 low-income households in Delaware. Twenty homeless shelters will receive 150,000 gallons of free heating fuel. In Connecticut, CITGO is going to assist in providing 4,800,000 million gallons of discounted heating oil to low-income consumers and 54,000 thousand gallons of no-cost heating oil to homeless shelters. http://www.citgo.com/CommunityInvolv...HeatingOil.jsp |

Chavez is running the only democratic country out of all top oil producing nations and was elected on the basis of swinging the profit benefits of oil around - not to see nice share values in boardrooms, but to benefit the poor in Venezuela (and where the country needs to address poverty) - that can gain popularity - not just with the poor, but also the wealthy. Never checked for the current price, but gas is selling around 12 cents/gallon in Venezuela and Chavez "appears" to have no problem selling oil to whoever needs it (tho the pressure is on in that oil demand far outstrips supply capability eg China alone is likely to want a sixfold increase in supply within around 10 years) - despite that, if a nation is in "need" and wants oil - he will supply at a beneficial price. There is one hell of a lot of propaganda bullshit about Chavez - and it's obvious where this is coming from. At the same time - only my :2 cents: - I don't trust Chavez, but in the same way there is no reason to trust ie Bush, or any leader of a nation. I don't know these people - not many people do know them to be in a position to give qualified judgement. They are all politicians, tho some have more of a need to spew bullshit to keep poll ratings up than others. |

For the record (and you can see my prevous post on this thread) I think Bush is another crazy and dangerous guy. I am only talking about Chavez, since there are so many "armchair leftists" here that seem to love him... I wonder why, if Chavez is such a revolutionary , he keeps selling most of our oil to the US..hmm. By the way, your canned reply about me being close to the "right wing powerful leaders that lost privileges" couldn´t be farther from the truth.Get a different argument.I know many, many poor people that want to see this bastard out of the presidency. |

Jeez, the "Che lovin,mc donalds eating" lefties here really need to learn how to read. |

I just said a generality: all what you said about Chavez applies to Bush ... Now, looks like that cannot be said without getting your thong all bunched up .... |

That makes Chavez the same as Bush. Which is not that far from the truth. Both are egotistical maniacs whose aim is to amass as much power as they can. |

But not supporting him doesn't make him the EVIL ( fuck, these terms make me laugh ) that Lazonby and his alter-ego dvd316 try to get to stick to him ... For those guys, anybody that doesn't suck Bush's cock is a terrorist, dictator and should be killed ... To tell you the truth, I do think that Chavez is maybe going a bit over the top, and it could amplify with time .... |

friggin chavez. He does all this stuff to make sure his citizens can get across our border and live here tax free while sending money back to mexico, and he calls Bush the devil?

Chavez is the President of Venezuela - not Mexico. Last time I looked Venezuela was in South America and has no borders with the US and Venezuelan people don't normally make the effort to cross any borders or send any money to Mexico whether this is tax free or otherwise :) Sure Bush is an asshole (or appears to be), but at least Chavez has gas at 12 cents/gallon, provides 70% of the population with universal healthcare and food to approx 12 million people in need and still provides cheap fuel to folks in the US who are in need. Never noticed Bush come close to that - even during an emergency scenario (Katrina). |

I was sitting in a Barcelona hotel watching CNN during that Chavez speech and I found it interesting that they emphasized mostly that he called Bush "the devil" and they seemed so surprised and shocked about that speech.
Chavez was right in many parts of his speech, because if you ask the people on the streets around the world about Bush or the US politics, many will agree with Chavez point of view. Now I'm not saying it is the right point of view, but there are really MANY people thinking like Chavez said..... |
