I need hosting...

I'm looking for a reliable host who wont go down because of my php application. I have a host now who can't handle it on a Dual AMD Opteron w/ 6GB ECC Ram.

I use a program thats PHP that uses many processes and apache connections simituneaosly my current host cannot handle it for some reason on my current linux/centos os config.

Anyhelp would be great!

Not to sound like an asshole - but you're doing it wrong. Why would you need several processes locally to your apache? Why wouldn't it be done in a DB on your end or via sockets?

Not too many people wantonly walk into a problem waiting to explode - good luck with your hosting!

Not even close to enough information to be able to offer any type of operational reccomendations.

What is the current bottleneck? What are the failure conditions are you seeing? What part of this software is resource-intensive? Etc.

Be *extremely* wary of any company that says "yeah! we can do that!" without asking these questions, as well as having a qualified technician load-profile your current machine with problems.

While it could absolutely simply be incomptence by your current host, I would say more likely it is either a programmer who entirely does not understand how to write scaleable code with performance in mind (e.g. really blatant stupid implementations of things), or that whatever you have simply cannot be done on your current level of hardware.

So.. basically without entering a real dialogue with a reputeable managed hosting company, you will won't be able to get a real answer

Hit me up if you're interested in Reflected, I would be happy to take a look and see what/if there are any recommendations I can make in regards to configuration/hardware setup.

(phil at reflected.net)

Hope this helps some!

I think we should talk solutions rather then hosts. You need something custom for sure.

First I would run mysql remotly and make the main server a dual core dual xeon system.

6 gigs of ram is not needed, if anything run 2 gigs of good ram on both servers maybe bump up to 4 gigs if needed.

Without clustering no server will run this.

You looking at about $800 a month for this.

From what everyone posted here, Phil @ Reflected was spot on, and even offered an overview. I'd certainly consider him before anyone in this thread, and I'm indirectly tied to a (non) competitor. Take that as you will, and good luck.

Hey dude,
I have no clue what you're talking about and I dont appreciate your attitude.
I bought the company at the begining of the year.
I'm not sure about your deals with the old owner but you must
know where and who he is. I don't believe you do business with people you don't
have names and addresses for, do you ?

I understand you're frustrated about your inability to collect but you don't need

- System settings is quite important (core/kernel modifications), don't underestimate it
- Apache tunning may help dramatically (you should know what yoou are doing)
- At least small modification of the script can help (if possible)
- You can also try to split the load between two machines (if possible)

If it won't help, try to switch to different hosting company with more professional support and better hardware...

Hope it helps a little...
