Should IP addresses be PROPERTY or not?

I am looking for anyone who has input on possibly the largest case
regarding internet numbering ever. This lawsuit may change the way
IP's are governed and adminstered.

For those interested, you may read this lawsuit here:
http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:...s&ct=clnk&cd=1

I'm not so sure IP's should be property, but im also not sure of how they are being managed globally right now.

You have your own ASN, and a bad link. Obviously you have portable netblocks, and are just trying to stir up shit in a vapid attempt to do another plug for your shitty service.

But, no, no, nonportable netblocks aren't property, and portable ones are.

That is a big case people.... talk shit about me if you like, but the point I bring up is large. If this lawsuit succeeds it could change the way everything is on the net with IP's.

"But, no, no, nonportable netblocks aren't property, and portable ones are."
Uh, portable ones ARE NOT Property according to ARIN and the way it "is".

Read the filing, then come back when you are done talking shit and post your honest opinion of this. It's sorta scary how things "are".

I'd think IPs should be 'property' as much as domains. It's basically a leased item. If you stop renewing the lease someone can auction or pick it up if you're not using it or you haven't sold or passed it along to another entity.

Thanks for the link though, I'll definitely take a read. I admit to being pretty clueless on the actual details behind IPs other than I like lots of them

and IPv6 is not nearly as cool as the old skool numbers...

The thing I dont like is how they force you to disclose VERY sensitive information just to obtain IP addresses. Like for example, they want your customer lists??? thats FUCKED up for them to ask for that. I have heard of lots of people having to do that.

I wonder how the canadian hosts handle that, I hear Canada has some VERY strict privacy laws.

I dont know about Canada, but lacnic (we have a datacenter in latin america for offshore hosting) was very strict as well (finally, through a long process, we have got what we wanted) but they have many, many strict laws regarding ip addresses and property.

It's never going to happen. Remember, they were trying to rid the world of ARIN, only to fall back upon it. The only thing this would do is make it so impossible that any asshole with a /32 gets/has to have it routed because it's 'personal'. That will never, ever, ever happen. Never.

Yeah, I attacked you this time; I was waiting for your 'But we'll fight this, with our 2509, until the end of time' as you cram a fufme into an orifice while listening to Rock You Like a Hurricane. My bad, this time.

We did not have to show our customers information, only that the IP's were being used by different customers. Yea, they do want alot of information, but I can see why with all the scammers on the net and fraud that goes on.
