I am not that fond of giving dogs poultry, the bones are to prone to splinter. Plus holy hell it is from wal mart.

I found that you can get smoked hamhocks for about same price.

Yup, same here, I had a Boxer nearly die on me over a turkey leg bone. It splintered and got caught in the back of his throat and we didn't know what was going on until we seen him bleeding from the mouth. We rushed him into the Vet and they got it out, but said to never ever give dogs poultry bones. A couple of years ago, the black lab we had got into someone's garbage and got a chicken leg bone caught sideways in the roof of his mouth and he was getting really sick before we found that problem..... it was rotting in the roof of his mouth and causing him to be sick, but no one knew what was going on....... got it out and he was fine, but could have been much worse.

VERY pretty dog though.

Iasked a vet about this and he said, poultry bones splinter after being cooked not before.

I play it safe and umm I wouldnt eat raw poultry and if I am not willing to eat something because it would make me sick, I would not give it to a pet. Plus dogs like to drag that sort of thing around, have it touch everything, etc. Which means possible cross contaminations. Besides if what you say is true which I have no reason to doubt. That leg looks cooked to me.

yeah but dogs' stomachs are much more acidic than humans'. its made for eating raw food. dogs actually thrive on raw diets.

Fido's stomach may handle it yet mine sure in the hell will not when Fido brings his raw chicken leg onto my bed or couch and I end up with salmonila or some other birdy bug.

Yeah, poultry bones are not good. It's better to just get a nice rib meal for yourself then save the bones and give them to the dog. Same goes with any BEEF bones. They're much stronger (making the treat last longer) and won't kill your dog.

I think it's not good for the dog to eat that turkey meat.
