which car: 911 C4S coupe with power package, C4S cabriolet, C4S targa, or Turbo?

i'm having a terrible time trying to decide what to do. and of course what better place to ask, then gfy? i currently have a new 997 turbo on order that is about to be built (september build) and delivered in october. there is no way to test drive this car, and in Canada you are looking at at least 3 years to factory order one. for a variety of reasons i was able to get higher up on the list.

after reading all of the reviews, i'm not convinced this is the car i should get. it certainly is fast in a straight line (1.1 sec to 30 mph, 3.7 sec to 60 mph with the manual, killing the gallardo and the F430), but the handling seems to leave something to be desired from what i've read. the clutch and the tranny don't sound to be as good as the other 911's either.

i love my 03 C4S, and was able to drive an 06 C4S the other day. amazing car. so i am re-thinking everything now. i could get a 07 C4S coupe with the powerpackage (381 hp, 0-60 in 4.3 sec) with the options i want for around 160K CAD + taxes, the 07 C4S cabriolet (without the power upgrade 355 hp, 0-60 in 4.7 sec) for about the same price, or the 07 C4S Targa (a targa has a clear glass roof that can be open and closed electrically), again for the same price. Both the cab and the targa are heavier than the coupe, and so are of course slightly slower, and not quite as safe as the coupe. and then of course there is the turbo, which would cost me 175K + tax.

as well, i think the C4S coupe is the best looking of all current 911's. here are some pics.

C4S coupe:

C4S cab:

T4S:

and the turbo:

no, i'm not interested in anything else but another 911 i have to cancel my order in the next 24 hours in order to get out of it, and into something else. thoughts?

The turbo has a voracious appetite for tires. If you can do 8k on a set of rears that will be about it.It's world-class fast..

If I could cure the addiction and only have one car..It would be my 911 cabrio. Not the fastest..but when the weather is right, nothing can beat top-down cruising in a 911.

Rain and a turbo can be an issue. The performance tires that are OEM are terrible on wet pavement. The closest I have coming to screwing the pooch in the last few years was on a rainy road in my Turbo. If you do go with the Turbo, definitely talk to your dealer about something more suitable to daily driving in your climate.
The first year I bought the turbo,I bought winter rims and snows for it.I took it out once in the snow and it was scary.I sold the rims and tires to a rennlister.

There is a very simple solution. It was impossible for me to decide too.So I got one of each. The turbo for when it's time to fly and the cabrio for those perfect summer days and nights. It's really not a bad way to go.You only put half the miles on the cars.

Haven't driven them, so I couldn't say. I think I am going to hold off on getting a Porsche. The Turbo sounds amazing, but I've heard awsome things of the GT3 as well, though it obviously isn't suitable for as much daily driving as a Turbo IMO. I've always thought the targa was cool. Would be nicer if it had a remoavble top though. I hear the C4S is a big waste of extra money. Everyone says the C4 is just as fun.

The Audi R8 looks to be amazing. I think I'll wait for that. A Lambo, but better looking and cheaper . With how fast the RS4 is, I have high hopes for the R8.

Sorry to get off topic.

I would say go for the Turbo there is so much more potential for upgrades. There is a huge market of tuners for the 911. I have a 996 Turbo that is a Ruf 550 R Turbo (Ruf is Porsche like Amg is to Mercedes) and the power and handling / suspension is amazing. I doubt you will be dissapointed with the Turbo.

the C4S has an extra 30 hp, has the ability to be upgraded to 56 more hp, wider tires, more standard options, wider body, etc. i would never consider a C4.

as far as getting 2 cars, unlike you minte, i'm not made of money ;)

one sports car is all i want or need. i have a saab for the winter, so this is basically my summer car, with lots of rainy days thrown in.

i have to email my guy tonight one way or the other, and i'm still not sure what to do. i'm leaning more and more to a c4s coupe with power package.

I'm in favor of the turbo too.. i don't like the lines around the windshield on the cabs.

the targa is nice but there is something about it i just don't like as much as a regular 911.

But I would get a black cab Ferrari actually anyways.

the 911 all the way. I looked at one saturday. I picked out every option except the ceramic brakes. It wont be ready until january. They need 5k just to get the order going. I gave them the 5k i'll see what happens.. waiting until january is redicoulus though, and its mid winter. I might just say screw the 911 and got for the sl55 benz. I looked at the gallardo but i was totally let down when i found out it has an audi a4 frame.

anyways, best of luck with your descision.

I'd go for the turbo definetely...

Quiet, if this car is in so high demand why not get it and then if you don't like it put it up for sale. I'm sure you could get what you paid for it if the waiting list is this long... Who knows maybe you will even make a couple of bucks ;)

Just my 2 cents.

First of all ... buy a coupe. If you think that the turbo has issues in handling and performance (it doesn?t by the way) then no way in hell you will be happy with a convertible Porsche which is about 300Kg heavier (dew to all the metal they need to reinforce the chassis after they chop off the roof), it?s slower and not as rigid. So therefore no keen driver would go near such a thing. If on the other thing you just need to show off and not actually drive this thing as it should...

Now that the gay convertible is out of the way...

Between the Turbo and the 911 4 S ... Personally I would go for the turbo, it simply is a better car, slightly more exclusive as well.

still unsure what to do. it's probably too late to cancel my turbo order and still get back my deposit. i really like the C4S option though... the last generation all-wheel drive is pure perfection.

i am a wreck trying to make a decision here. i think the C4S is better looking, sounds better, handles at least as good (if not better). my Porsche guy called me and said my turbo is only two weeks away, vs next summer for a factory ordered C4S. i don't know.

turbo looks the nuts with the vents at the side.. don't think softtop 911's look right, get a 997 Turbo and a boxster S for when you wanna take the lid off :o)
