OTTAWA, Canada (Reuters) -- Several shots were fired inside a downtown Montreal college on Wednesday, and initial reports from the scene suggest at least two people were injured, television networks said.

The incident happened at Dawson College, which the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said had around 10,000 students.

Yeah so far they say 3 people are critically wounded, it's mad whats going on in the downtown core. Apparently there were a couple gunmen.

One of the girls on the news was saying one of the guys was in a black trenchcoat, black boots, and looked like a goth type guy.

Eye witnesses have reported the shooters were white but until this is confirmed police will assume shooter were black!

Hi guys i'm new in the forum but here more info

CanWest News Service
Published: Wednesday, September 13, 2006

MONTREAL -- At least one -- possibly two -- gunmen opened fire Wednesday inside downtown Montreal?s Dawson College leaving four dead and critically wounding at least three people and sending hundreds of screaming and terrified students and staff running into the streets and seeking cover.

One network reported four people are dead and 16 wounded ? but there is no official confirmation from police. It is believed two of the dead were gunmen. One report quoted police saying two gunman were among the dead ? one had been "neutralized" by police and one had taken his own life.

SWAT teams and police canine units are going through the buildings looking for victims, CNN reported.

"Most of the students have exited the college grounds," Sgt. Giuseppe Boccardi told the network.

Outside, a state of panic quickly emerged with frightened students giving wildly varying accounts of what was happening inside. There were several reports saying there was one gunman, while others said there were as many as four.

Television images showed police pulling a bloodied person out of the building.

Helicopters are buzzing overhead and emergency vehicles continued to arrive an hour after the first reports of shots.

One student told a radio station she saw two people who had been shot, with one person hit in the neck.

The ambulance department confirmed three people have been transported to hospital in critical condition and there are several more wounded inside the facility, which has about 10,000 full-and part-time students.

Live television pictures showed students continuing to flee from all exits long after the first shots were reported. Some of the students ran away from the buildings holding their hands in the air.

Several people were seen being taken out on stretchers. On the front steps of the building, blood was seen on the ground near a police vehicle.

Witnesses said it appeared one gunman was chasing someone and at least 20 shots were fired.

Michel Boyer, 19, told CTV he saw a masked gunman wearing black from head to toe and wearing a mask was seen with a black rifle or shotgun. He said he heard 20 shots and ran for shelter in a classroom.

"I think I'm very lucky to be alive and that is wasn't injured," Boyer said.

"It was like something from a movie, it is the most scary thing that has ever happened to me."

Another report said a white gunman with a Mohawk haircut and dressed in black opened fire in the building.

The shootings began around 1:00 p.m. Eastern time and reportedly took place in the cafeteria, on the third floor of the school.

The school is located in a densely populated area of the city with stores and offices surrounding it.

It is not the first time there has been a shooting in a Montreal college. In December 1989, Marc Lepine shot and killed 14 women and wounded several others at Ecole Polytechnique during a shooting rampage that ended when he took his own life.

Stupid comments. We're french canadians, not frenchies.

This is like saying that british people are like americans because they speak the same langage. We don't even have the same accent.

I guess you are clueless about a lot of things about Montreal. This is not the first shooting in a school.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89c...nique_massacre

École Polytechnique massacre

The École Polytechnique massacre occured on December 6, 1989, at the École Polytechnique de Montréal in Montreal, Quebec. A man by the name of Marc Lépine entered the complex and carried out a shooting rampage which killed 14 students, as well as wounding 13 others, before commiting suicide shortly after. All of the victims targeted were women.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Lépine entered the École Polytechnique, an engineering school affiliated with the Université de Montréal. He had applied for admission into the engineering school but was rejected. He blamed it on affirmative action which kept him out in place of a woman. He first went into a mechanical engineering class, separated the men from the women, forced out the men at gunpoint, began to scream about how he hated feminists, and then opened fire. Lépine continued his rampage in other parts of the building, opening fire on other women he encountered. He killed 14 women (13 students and one employee of the university) and injured thirteen others before committing suicide.

Marc Lépine had a very troubled childhood including an abusive father and had left a note blaming feminism for all the failures in his life, including his aforementioned rejection from the engineering school. However, his failure to gain admission to the École Polytechnique was because he had not completed the necessary prerequisite courses.

During his parents' divorce, his mother told the court at their divorce hearing that her husband, an Algerian immigrant, "had a total disdain for women and believed they were intended only to serve men." After the divorce, he changed his name from Gamil Gharbi to Marc Lépine.

The massacre profoundly shocked citizens of Quebec and Canada. The Quebec government and the Montreal city government declared three days of mourning.

Initial news reports did not note that all 14 victims were women. When Lépine's motive became clear, the event served as a massive spur for the Canadian feminist movement and for action against violence against women. December 6 is now observed as a memorial day, especially in Montreal; in 1991 Parliament officially designated December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. A white or purple ribbon is used as a symbol of December 6 memorials. In Ottawa a memorial to victims of violence against women was erected as a reaction.

The aftermath was especially hard on the students and the support staff that was present at the time. Many suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. The massacre was also a major spur for the Canadian gun control movement, which finally resulted in the passage of stricter gun control legislation in 1995 (in the form of Bill C-68, passed as the Firearms Act).

Radio news here just reported 4 dead (including 2 of the gunmen) and 16 injured. They also said police are out looking for a possible 3rd gunman.

Now the news here is saying there are up to 30 injured.

Sherbrooke and Atwater? I know that area, lived near there for 2 months back in '76 during the Olympics, in an apartment on Lincoln. Crazy.

Yep, Lincoln is right around the corner... a stone's throw. The building where the shooting took place wasn't there in 76, though.

It's beyond fucked up. I went to CEGEP at Dawson myself. I know many people who are still students there (who are all safe, thankfully). It's chilling to see this on the news and to think that I used to walk through those same doors day in, day out. If this had happened 5 years ago, there's a good chance I'd have been at the same cafeteria at the time the shooting occured.

The official report as of now is that one girl is dead and that there was only one shooter, who was taken down by the cops. Many more are injured, some in critical condition.
