Rock and Roll is Dead?

http://reason.com/hod/ng061402.shtml This article is a good example of [Labret]'s theory of rock music.

The original Rock and Roll began in the mid-fifties and was dead by 1960. Rock and Roll since then is a misnomer.

Rocm aint dead man you guys just expect it in the mainstream, it wont happen.

I see more killer rock bands forming everyday, especially with all the Swedes on this board.

The Wildhearts.
Street Walking Cheetahs.
Backyard Babies
Nashville Pussy
The Hellacopters
Zeke
Speed Dealer

I can go on for days...

theres thousands of bands that have kept rock n roll, as a matter of fact there are Rock A Billy hotrod parties around here all the time.

Its like the old 50's hotrod shows, beer N cars, saw a 33 Mercury the other day, the guy driving it looked like he was in the Stray Cats, straight up Greaser man, cuffed jeans and all, his lil hot chick was made up like Lucille Ball ya know, hair up in 40s - 50s style.

Rock aint dead, just dont look for it on TV or radio.

The real music will always be going on at the bar for the 3 dollar bands.

You wont find it on MTV

;)

I agree it lives, but not in mainstream "Rock and Roll". That is why I said Rock and Roll is a misnomer.

Rock & roll is alive and well. I grew up with Elvis and The Rolling Stones and think Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine is one of the top 10 of all time. I love lots of other modern (if not absolutely contemporary) bands: Garbage, Ministry, The Cranberries, etc.

What rock is is difficult to define, but one thing it's not is stuck in time. It evolves to reflect its times.

Fuck MTV. Have you ever been to a rock concert, of any style? Rock is doing just fine...

It really pisses me off when mainstream picks up a good rock song and plays the shit out of it. Next thing you know, the sorority girls next door are jamming to it while cleaning up their party mess. Talk about ruining a good song...
