FACT: Blogging isn't for everybody

I've seen more and more people jump on the blog bandwagon lately, as well as I've seen tons of blogs get created, updated for a while, and then totally deserted.

Before you start another soon-to-be-deserted blog, you may wanna take a few minutes and think about what running a blog requires from you. Are you creative? Are you disciplined? Can you string together two paragraphs of coherent, selling text, with good spelling and grammar? Do you have a clue of how to target a few keyphrases and end up getting some half-assed SE traffic in the long run? No? Then fuck it. Blogs DO require work. And yes, they can bring great results, but just like with everything else, you need to persevere. If you start a blog, only to abandon it three weeks later, then you've simply washed three weeks of your time down the drain. In that case, stick with what you do best, whatever that is. Blogging simply isn't for everybody.

Most of the blogs I see are basically limited content TGPs and the webmasters running them don't have a clue how a real blog is intended to work.

I use blogs on parked domains. Throw up a fast design, and post 20-50posts. Works better than SeDo for me.

Other than that, I agree 100% on the topic

I train people on how to build blog networks and the number one issue I run across is the use of many images and one line of text.

Using AdSense on them, or product-specific sponsors?

sponsors relevant to the domain name. Its easier to sell a domain that is listed for related keywords. Well, maybe not a lot easier, but at least more honest than boosted PageRanks.

Who cares what a "real" blog is supposed to look or work. The end result that matters is how much money you make from it. Just because you spend a bunch of time writing stupid blog stuff doesn't mean you will make more than someone who has theirs set to just update on it's own.

So would you rather have a "real" blog that you spend a hour on everyday that makes you X amount of money every month. Or would you rather have a fake blog that makes the same amount of money and you only spend a few hours month if that working on it?

Sure having a real updated blog has it's advantages but why waste your time on a site like that unless it has a lot of traffic? When instead you could build a bunch of fake ones and probably end up with more traffic and money.

If either approach is used as mindlessly as you appear to imply, neither are going to earn a lot of money.

You are right to the extent that there is no special virtue as such in running a "real" blog. However your comments totally ignore what makes "real" blogs potential traffic generators and money spinners.

Realizing that potential is something else again, but that is true of any business model, so why so contemptuous of blogs? Certainly to make them work takes time and talent, especially in adult, because its appeal is primarily visual. But that alone is a reason to take them seriously.

What advantage can you hope to have over your competition if you have everything running on autopilot and produce nothing but clones of thousands of other sites around the web. If you have the ability to produce "real" blogs successfully, adult or mainstream, you have an opportunity such as doesn't exist unless you have the funds for an exclusive-content paysite. That is to be original. Get it right and it can pay off like nothing else.

If you have something special and unique then sure it's worth extra effort. The point I was getting at is the fact that even a daily updated text rich blog isn't anything special and unique.

On the other side there is nothing at all wrong with doing a "real" blog if it's something you like doing. My point was just to say that an auto pilot blog can make just as much or more than one someone updates everyday.

Like someone else posted.. It's porn there is only so much to write about it.. lol Now on the other hand for mainstream stuff or mixed content like maybe a funny site personality makes all the difference in the world. However in porn being different is nice but it's not a necessity.

The topic was about telling people that blogs aren't easy and about so manny people giving up on them. The simple reason for that is they aren't making worth while money out of them, specially when they are new. My point was you can run a bunch of fake blogs on auto pliot so it doesn't get boring. Then if you get one of them up to a certian income or traffic level you put more work into it. Otherwise leave it on auto and build a new one.

I agree - blogs are NOT for everyone.

When I started mine way, way back in 2003, I was the only game in town and I was king of the hill.

I read somewhere recently that the most successful blogs (i.e. celebrity gossip especially) are esssentially run like a glossy magazine - VC money, support staffs, numerous contributors. One guy with a porn site can't compete.

If you're determined to start one, have realistic expectations.

Agreed. I would say that at least 3/4 of adult blogs I've seen are nothing more than a variation on the old "Picpost" idea and we all know what happened to them.

I could show anyone how to get instant traffic to a blog and SE traffic in 1 to 3 days for exactly what they are targetting. 2 minutes of tweaks would turn most worthless blogs into mini ATM's.

In any case, WP and similar are great as a CMS to create a website easily. Who cares if the person doesn't make a "blog" by your standards? When I was testing some new stuff I posted no more than 1 sentence in any 1 post and brought in 10,000 hits in 24 hours (non porn). If you came along and looked at it you would have written it off as worthless which it obviously wasn't.

And that's OK, if you know what you're doing. Fact is, most don't, and that's why they give up on blogs, eventually. As I said, blogging isn't for everybody.

If you start a blog, only to abandon it three weeks later, then you've simply washed three weeks of your time down the drain. In that case, stick with what you do best, whatever that is. Blogging simply isn't for everybody.
Lucky there are many type of blogs, a type of blog for every person. Not every blog type is good for SE, but they get traffic from other sources.

I studied blogs for almost a year for something I wanted to work on. I'm not full of shit but don't care if you think I am.

And you can make money with a shitty blog like you can make with a shitty tgp.

Your title should've been

Yes, you did. What part of "it isn't for everybody" was unclear to you? The thread was meant to forewarn people that blogging takes time and effort, isn't as easy as most make it out to be, you have to know what you're doing and must be prepared to put in the required effort. And yes, that applies to everything, so if you want to generalize, of course you can. Nothing out there is for everybody, except perhaps breathing or something thereabout.

Well be thankful you've got another 100 subjects to talk about:
Gallery submitting isn't for everybody
TGPs aren't for everybody
SEO isn't for everybody
Paysites aren't for everybody
LinkLists aren't for everybody
Spamming isn't for everybody
P2P isn't for everybody
Viral marketing isn't for everybody
PPC isn't for everybody

should I go on ? I just don't see the point in stating the obvious.

Very true. I had a blog once (BangBlog), and even though i see myself as a competent and coherent writer, i made no sales whatsoever with it, and couldn't be arsed continuing it when i had put weeks and weeks worth of effort into it for no reward.
