Being from Wisconsin, I understand completely.

Does she have just walks, or walks and a driveway? If she has a driveway, how big is it? How long and wide are her walks?

If just for walks, this little machine gets the job done nicely.

I have a old Gravely - it must be 10+ years old now, but still works really well.
Looks like this one http://www.stevenchalmers.com/Gravel...Snowblower.jpg

Might be to big for a woman, so it would be safer for her to buy a honda like mentioned by Lycanthrope

I have a 9hp Craftsman - have had it for about 3 years now. It's seen plenty of snow.. wet, dry, icy, etc..

My only bitch about it is the chute is plastic - if you have thick, hard ice or pieces of asphalt from plows breaking the street, the chute will break. I've gone through 2 so far.

A Craftsman will last forever, but the Honda's are much easier to start. Honda's will rust out after a few years though (like the cars)

Since it's for your Mom, I'd probably say the Honda.

Hehe me neither. I couldn't imagine so much snow all the time where you'd ever need one.
