:stoned Any Blackadder fans here?

IMHO the most brilliant comic series ever! 15 years later and I still watch the 5-disc special dvd edition regularly. I love sarcasm, so my all time favourite series is Blackadder III, pure sarcasm at it's best. Rowan's finest performance.

Excellent series! Love sneering Blackadder and cringing Baldric

Sarcasm at it's finest prob lies with John Cleese as Basil Fawlty (Fawlty Towers) when someone complains about the view from their hotel bedroom window...

Basil: What did you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically????

Customer service has never been so fine

Yes. Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry were a comedy duo on tv for a while and they are both regulars in Blackadder. Laurie is a fantastic comedy actor but it is odd for me to listen to him with an American accent. Especially as he voices over diaper comercials here.

I always liked the second series best. And although much subtler, the humour in the first series was outstanding.

E: Well I thought I could take her a short note expressing your
honourable intentions.

PR: Yes, yes, I think so too. All right then, well take this down. Eh,
"From His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales to Miss Amy Hardwood.
Tally-ho my fine saucy young trollop! Your luck's in! Trip along here
with all your cash, and some naughty night attire, and you'll be
staring at my bedroom ceiling from now till Christmas, you lucky tart!
Yours with the deepest respect etc, signed George. PS Woof woof!"
Well, what do you think?

E: It's very *moving* sir. Would you mind if I change just one tiny
aspect of it?

PR: Which one?

E: The words.

Another fine episode, Bladrick playing the horse is cracking.

"Hire you a horse? For ninepence? On Jewish New Year in the rain? A bare fortnight after the dreaded horse plague of old London Town? With the blacksmith's strike in its fifteenth week and the Dorset horse fetishists fair tomorrow?"

Blackadder is a classic. My gf doesn't dig it though (along with some other British comedies, eg "The Day Today") which I never understood.... It is intrinsically funny!

Do I need to educate her?

Well she's not dumb, but with regards media I think she likes the MTV-instant-visual-gratification-brain-on-standby stuff for TV, film, magazines, etc.

Is this Americanisation? Age?

Great series. I always try and catch the Christmas specials when they are on and sometimes get to see some of the episodes on late night tv.

Is English her first language? (Asking because of your location). A lot of blackadder's humour is as much in how a line is said as it is in what is said.

The final scene in the last series was quite a sombre ending. They went "over the top" and then it faded to a current day view of the battlefield. Very moving and a little unexpected from a comedy, I thought it was a very nice touch.

Yes the end of Blackadder IV is a bit unexpected and always saddens me to watch it.

But it's not as bad as the ending of the 1st series where everyone dies of wine poisoning, including Edmund. One would expect him to at least become king after all the torture we goes through.

They did something that was shown at the Millenium Dome. It wasn't great and also wasn't made by the BBC.
