Any Blackadder fans here?

IMHO the most brilliant comic series ever! 15 years later and I still watch the 5-disc special dvd edition regularly. I love sarcasm, so my all time favourite series is Blackadder III, pure sarcasm at it's best. Rowan's finest performance. :2 cents:

I used to *love* Blackadder... I never caught the final series though :(

Greg MissionD 08-29-2006 02:09 PM

Word, i miss that baldric

Tim 08-29-2006 02:18 PM

Classic stuff :)

RichGuy 08-29-2006 02:39 PM

Series III is the best for sure.

u-Bob 08-29-2006 02:41 PM

Captain Blackadder definitely did not shoot the delicious plump breasted pigeon! :)

AssPirate 08-29-2006 02:42 PM

Was that lead guy from HOUSE also in the series?

Webby 08-29-2006 03:03 PM

Excellent series! :thumbsup Love sneering Blackadder and cringing Baldric :winkwink:

Sarcasm at it's finest prob lies with John Cleese as Basil Fawlty (Fawlty Towers) when someone complains about the view from their hotel bedroom window...

Basil: What did you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically????

Customer service has never been so fine :winkwink:

Sarah_Jayne 08-29-2006 03:41 PM

Love it and it is the whole reason I forgive him Bean. The scarlet pimpernel episode still cracks me up.

Yeah Hugh Laurie.

Along with his Comic Partner Stephen Fry.

Yes. Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry were a comedy duo on tv for a while and they are both regulars in Blackadder. Laurie is a fantastic comedy actor but it is odd for me to listen to him with an American accent. Especially as he voices over diaper comercials here.

Michaelious 08-29-2006 03:57 PM

Yeah it's an utterly amazing series

free4porn 08-29-2006 04:03 PM

yup love it! Rowan was great in Mr Bean thou!!

Yup Webby Fawlty Towers was great too. John Cleese cracks me up :1orglaugh

Lee 08-29-2006 04:07 PM

I always liked the second series best. And although much subtler, the humour in the first series was outstanding.

Paul 08-29-2006 08:29 PM

E: Well I thought I could take her a short note expressing your
honourable intentions.

PR: Yes, yes, I think so too. All right then, well take this down. Eh,
"From His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales to Miss Amy Hardwood.
Tally-ho my fine saucy young trollop! Your luck's in! Trip along here
with all your cash, and some naughty night attire, and you'll be
staring at my bedroom ceiling from now till Christmas, you lucky tart!
Yours with the deepest respect etc, signed George. PS Woof woof!"
Well, what do you think?

E: It's very *moving* sir. Would you mind if I change just one tiny
aspect of it?

PR: Which one?

E: The words.

Jarmusch 08-30-2006 04:16 AM

Another fine episode, Bladrick playing the horse is cracking. :1orglaugh

"Hire you a horse? For ninepence? On Jewish New Year in the rain? A bare fortnight after the dreaded horse plague of old London Town? With the blacksmith's strike in its fifteenth week and the Dorset horse fetishists fair tomorrow?"

Blackadder is a classic. My gf doesn't dig it though (along with some other British comedies, eg "The Day Today") which I never understood.... It is intrinsically funny!

Do I need to educate her?

Not everyone gets intelligent humour. :2 cents:

Well she's not dumb, but with regards media I think she likes the MTV-instant-visual-gratification-brain-on-standby stuff for TV, film, magazines, etc.

Is this Americanisation? Age?

Jarmusch 08-30-2006 05:06 AM

I bet she likes Mr. Bean. :)

Quagmire 08-30-2006 05:09 AM

Great series. I always try and catch the Christmas specials when they are on and sometimes get to see some of the episodes on late night tv.

xcitecash 08-30-2006 05:13 AM

Fantastic stuff....Richard Curtis, the main writer has just won an EMMY for writing "Girl in a Cafe" a film for TV made by the BBC

one of THE great TV writers ever

Dirty Dane 08-30-2006 05:22 AM

I love that serie

Manowar 08-30-2006 05:24 AM

that was hilarious

Is English her first language? (Asking because of your location). A lot of blackadder's humour is as much in how a line is said as it is in what is said.

rowan 08-30-2006 05:31 AM

The final scene in the last series was quite a sombre ending. They went "over the top" and then it faded to a current day view of the battlefield. Very moving and a little unexpected from a comedy, I thought it was a very nice touch.

The veteran groups here always talk highly of that episode. It is a very well done episode.

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 08-30-2006 06:21 AM

Such a great show.

Jarmusch 08-30-2006 06:47 AM

Yes the end of Blackadder IV is a bit unexpected and always saddens me to watch it.

But it's not as bad as the ending of the 1st series where everyone dies of wine poisoning, including Edmund. One would expect him to at least become king after all the torture we goes through.

sirrobin 08-30-2006 06:58 AM

Baldrick : I have a cunning plan

rabbit 08-30-2006 07:28 AM

awesome stuff, my favorite! wwII one is the best imo... the charlie chaplin telegraph is hilarious!

"p.s. please please please STOP"

AssPirate 08-30-2006 07:30 AM

I once heard that they're doing a reunion movie of sorts but that was five years ago. I wonder what happened.

They did something that was shown at the Millenium Dome. It wasn't great and also wasn't made by the BBC.

Maxxx9000 08-30-2006 08:03 AM

Have just seen the whole series on DVD. Loving it..
