How do I turn putty telnet shell access on through Cpanel?

Need to upload a large mysql database but the server won't let me access through shell, contacted host but maybe theres a quicker way...

I don't know.. I just click on mine & it turns on & after I enter the domain name it asks me for user & password.. I don't know the commands to ftp via it though,, I only used it to cron.. I am still learning shell, so don't know.

how do i use ssh2, when i enter my password in putty it closes but i know its the right pass

While in cPanel as "root" ensure you have enabled SSH access for the user you are connecting to the server as (assuming it is a sub-account you are
using). Look for "Manage Shell Access" in "Account Functions".

Once that is enabled, you can also go into the "Feature Manager" for the
package assigned to the account. Ensure the "SSH Window" feature is
checked off. So when you bring up the cPanel for the sub-account you
will have a SSH icon.

Thanks for the help. I think I found that option but I need to log into SSH under root not under the specific domain. Unless there is a way to import a vb database through the users account and not the root one..

Ask your host. He will SSH as root and uploaded it. At least, he should.

i tried it with my other server and it's fine. i contacted the host, just was really hyped up about getting this done today.
