Thats odd. Has to do with the way the ips are handed out on your router I guess. What kind of setup do you have?

Sounds to me like your laptop is being assigned an IP address by the cable
modem instead of the router. Do you have a cable modem that has wireless support? If so that is probably the cause. |

The more important issue would be why is your cable going out? It should really never go out unless you are in a hurricane or they are working on the lines. Does it go out very often?

I have had this problem before. I rebooted by router and IPConfig /release /renew and it fixed it. Have no clue where the conflict was.

Laptop should be on an ip like 192.168.1.05 or similar. Should be an internal network Ip. Very odd the cable is affecting it.

It's possible you have a bad line or the signal is just too low maybe it has a extra splitter or two it it's dropping out regularly.

I have issues with my wrt54g too sometimes. I have to reboot it to get back online. You sure its not just the router dropping all connections rather than the cable going out? Like are your connected lights lit up on the modem, but you lose internet?

the line is a tad low, they're suposed to be fixing the problem for 21/2 years at this point i'm not sure if it's the cablemodem losing it or my router losing connection with the cable modem or both. |

Very similar. I think this is what happens, cable modem loses the internet for a minute or 30 seconds, then my router loses the cablemodem, then when the cable modem comes back to life it cant find the router. But none of the above should affect my laptop connecting to the router. I'm not really worried about loosing internet every now and then. BUT my security system uses ip cameras on my network and the pc I connect to this syestem is my wireless laptop. I don't want my local network going down. ![]() |

Yea the router shouldn't go down.. maybe go and pick up one at best buy or somewhere local and it it doesn't solve the issue take it back.. lol
Routers are so cheap now you can normally pick one up well under a hundered. Also if yea need any help on the cable stuff let me know, I know a thing or two about that, can probably get it fixed for you. You can hit me on ICQ if yea want sometime.
