I'm not sure why you would lose your lan when ever the cable goes out. Even if it was a cable modem/router combo I'd think lan would still stay up but you just wouldn't be able to connect to the internet.

The more important issue would be why is your cable going out? It should really never go out unless you are in a hurricane or they are working on the lines. Does it go out very often?
