SEALS vs SAS. Who's tougher?
I say the SAS.
This is what regular British soldiers do: "OUTNUMBERED British soldiers killed 35 Iraqi attackers in the Army?s first bayonet charge since the Falklands War 22 years ago. The fearless Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders stormed rebel positions after being ambushed and pinned down. Despite being outnumbered five to one, they suffered only three minor wounds in the hand-to-hand fighting near the city of Amara. The battle erupted after Land Rovers carrying 20 Argylls came under attack on a highway. After radioing for back-up, they fixed bayonets and charged at 100 rebels using tactics learned in drills. When the fighting ended bodies lay all over the highway ? and more were floating in a nearby river. Nine rebels were captured." The SAS are far tougher than this unit of regular British infantry. |

The reason you never see any stories about Navy Seals victories, is because if anyone knew that they were there, then they failed their job.

Hard to say Hooligan - prob depends a lot on the individuals with a unit. BTW.. Not sure if that's what you are saying, but the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders are not an SAS unit. My father-in-law was the RSM. If you are familiar - you may remember Colonel Mitchell (Mad Mitch)?

Tho my father-in-law screamed shit at troops and officers in training, once the screaming stopped - it was utter respect and consideration all round. Same with the senior officers to the lowest of ranks. It's hard to convey the "aura", but very obvious they were a "team" who would be useful in eg. policing an area and cooling unrest, and if there was resistance, get into hand-to-hand and bayonet killing (they did plenty of that in Aden - too much for the British govt at times

well, for starters
the SAS did have way more time to practice and fine-tune their way of operating with the IRA and all, the SAS had lots more oppurtunites for being used and try out different techniques yes the SEALS know what they are doing, but as much asction as they've seen the SAS had to "play" in Northern-Ireland for.. 22yrs.. most probably way more then that, but don't know the exact # |

SAS probably although the SBS (Special Boat Squadron) the Royal Marine equivalent is reputed to have higher training standards or you could go for the New Zealand SAS which combines the specialities of the SAS and SBS
Israeli special forces are also top notch; French Foreign Legion is more of regular military so not comparable but is a first class fighting force. If you are comparing SEAL's you really need to compare them to the SBS. The American Delta Force was modelled on the SAS and is obviously comparable. I love these pointless threads! |
