Chris, I know this is obvious but there are numerous forums focused on Adobe products .... Including their own forums.

What was the source?
What kind of file are you exporting to? If the source file is an existing MPG file, it's probably Demux, so you have to extract and re-add the audio. |

You didn't fuck up Adobe, the files are just fucking a pain in the fucking ass to work with. I open them in Quicktime Pro, then resave them as .mov files, sometimes this works, but it's very time consuming. |

I haven't experienced your situation, but I know when you export as a quicktime movie (prior to loading into Cleaner or another batch processor), you need to export your video as a "self-contained" movie. Otherwise, what you export only references (points to) the elements of the movie (in this case video or audio).
If you bought your Adobe product recently they will walk you thorough the problem. Otherwise, you have to pay a per incident fee or purchase an annual support package. Either way, they will help you troubleshoot and isolate the problem. ADG Webmaster |

I would guess one of several possibilities
-- As an earlier poster said, MPGs (particularly for some DVD authoring apps) have to be in elemental streams, separate files for audio and video. If you put the MPG in a separate directory, call Windows Media player or Quicktime or sometihng and it plays audio and video, then the MPG isn't elemental, it's multiplexed and should play in Premiere. -- We have weird problems with Premiere from time to time that I've never definitively been able to track down, such that it will randomly decide not to play audio. In most cases, if we shut down AND UNPLUG the power cord from the machine, and then reboot (after plugging back in, duh) the problem magically goes away. -- Depending on the version of Premiere (I think 7+ does this), make sure that the conformed audio files aren't corrupt. Delete the "conformed audio files" folder in whatever subdirectory your edited file is, reboot, reload Premiere, and it will force it to remake the conformed audio files. This may solve your problem, it has for me several times. Hope this helps.

Im not into this Video editing stuff, but it might be easier to rip and play with the format in VideoCharge first and then when you have it in a format and compressed how you want it edit it in Premier.

There's a lot of better programs out there now IMHO, at least easier to use. Try Sony Vegas Video factory - very easy to use! Not sure what features you need, but if you're just looking for the basics, you can probably find something with a very simple GUI.

i have experienced a lot of that before.. but not in primiere... i use vegas.. sometimes w/ video but no audio or w/ audio and no video.. i dont know how to explain it but try rendering it in other format (uncompressed avi so you wont lose quality) using sonrension squeeze or any other encoding software... this time you will edit it in other format and see if there's an audio timeline now... it works for me...
