I know a guy who buys spots at the hun and others and if you do it right then its very worth it.
Ive seen his stats with my own eyes and hes doing about 1:10 1:15 with big $40 per sale sponsors.
I even saw 1:1 stats from a while back...from pure tgp traffic.

Its actually pretty simple to achieve but you need some sources for it....own content, own tours and stuff...

With a toplisting at thehun you should get atleast 5000 clicks which would result in over 300 sales
I think it should be 1:150 or so.
Unless he uses textlinks like "JOIN NOW FOR $40"

Anyone can get a low conversion ratio if they filter their traffic through custom tours and shit like that, but it doesn't mean that you're making more sales. You might even be making less sales than you could have.

Just to inject a bit of sense into the pissing.

Conversion ratios USUALLY don't mean shit. However, that said:

They are very useful tools when you are doing an apples to apples comparison - ie, this week we buy a spot at The Hun, and send it to our tour.. 100k uniques, X conversion ratio.

Next week we buy a spot at SleazyDream, 50k (no idea) uniques, X conversion ratio - to the exact tour. This tells us the relative quality of the traffic, and is extremely useful. However, it's very hard to seperate this traffic unless you are using some scripting, like sending the surfers to the same tour, but marking them..

A stats teacher once pointed out the strong correlation between the growth in population in Louisiana and the receding of the shoreline, but obviously the number of people is not causing the state to sink.

Even the most convincing of correlations and such are useless without common sense. Obviously, you cannot expect blind click traffic to convert as well as direct join pages hit from a tour.

Bottom Line: Anyone actually have profitability numbers on this sort of paid spot that they'd be willing to share?
