TINNITUS - Someone PLEASE FUCKING HELP!!!! Advice needed.

I have Tinnitus, which is a crackling noise in one ear that is constant (Imagine putting your ear to a bowl of rice crispies or someone crunching a Dorito back next to your ear 24/7. It's been almost 2 weeks now. It's driving me insane. I can't sleep. I have tried "ear irrigation" with peroxide and a kit from the drugstore, ear candles, "white noise machines", sleeping pills, ear plugs, fucking everything and it won't stop. One thing if it was an ear ache, but there is no pain, just this constant sound that is making me almost deaf in that ear when it turns from annoying crackling to a roar.

I can't be the only one on this board to have Tinnitus, or a related inner ear problem. I'm so damn desperate I will paypal someone that gives me advice that actually works.

You're not the only one on the board with it - most of us just learn to live with it but if you haven't been to see a doctor yet then you really should.

I've got it in both ears and so does everyone else I know that has it so perhaps having it in one ear is unusual and may be a sign of something else that you need a doctor to check.

Im sure you have realised that there is no real cure - stress can be a cause.

The only real pratical thing I remember from training is that Aspirin can be a cause in some (very few) cases.

So if you are taking regular Aspirin for anything, try stopping it for a while.

Thanks guys... I do not take Asprin, I am under stress, but much less than usual........ shit, I'm about to lose it. I can't take it.... I'm working on 4 days with no sleep. My quality of life which was wonderful took a digger. Each case is different, but mine is high pitched cracking noises that are multiple and every second..... when I lay down it get worse--turns into a roar. I am not fucking kidding about giving someone money if they can help out.

I also thank you for the URLS, but I have already google'd and read about 30 pages.... I thought someone may have come up with a home rememdy. It does ache a bit, but on a scale of 1-10, it would register a 1 and that is most likely from me playing with the pressure in my ear to make it stop. I'd rather listen to the song I hated the most play over and over and over again.

some basic stress relieving techniques:

breathe good deep breathe

if you're smoking, smoke less

water is a great stress absorber, drink and take it on, cool water is cool you know ;)

exercising sets the mind in the right perspective

music is great especially if something nice is on.

deep breathe

you can really unwind and relax.

that sound is plain boring.

tinnitis is a 8th cranial nerve stimulation. asa can be a stimuli and so can be tylenol. both of these occur if your taking more than allowed daily intake of these drugs. 4000 mg is the limit. Double check your over the counter drugs.
next.. which is the usual reason.. ear wax impaction. remove the wax

next...over stimuli.. ipods, walkmans, headsets.. or in tender's issue.. high freq noise.... cure? none.. this usually means hearing damage. ask any military veteran about battle hearing.

inner ear infection... this requires.. an antibiotic.

last.. tumor... auditory nerve tumors are rare but occur.

bottom line... see a doctor..
failure to deal with all of these causes result in the same thing.. hearing loss .. the last one.. brain cancer.

usual prescription.. antivert, an abx ear gtts and wait and see for 10days.

By "Bathroom" do you mean the sound of water? Because that sets my ear off into a full roar. I'd rather be totally deaf in that ear if it doesn't go away. People that have not experienced it don't understand how hard it is to live with.

OK, someone that lives near me: Come over with a fucking hammer to knock me out..... I am at the end of my rope here. Stress very well could be the cause, but having that annoying/constant noise in my right ear is causing the fucking stress. 4 days with only a few day dreams and no sleep...... I'm on the verge of (insert very foul words) I have a damn HMO so I need referrals and it will take me a month to see an ENT. For those of you that know me, you know that the last time an ENT touched me during surgery he/she (I can not disclose names or hints by law) trashed the nerves that run from your brain, down your neck and into your spine. Well, after several painful nerve conduction studies, I have a damaged 'long thorasic nerve' as well as the 'suprascapular' nerve. In other words, too many hours sitting upright or on my feet and I start to tilt one way and am in a great deal of pain.

I'd rather have the back pain than this annoying fucking noise.

Excuse my language, but WTFE, it's GFY!

The offer for money by paypal (not a ton, but enough for help due to experience) will be sent. Again, I am that desperate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have tinnitis from all the loud music and gunshots I have heard since I was a little kid. I have learned to live with it to the point I really don't notice it. Everyonce in a while something triggers my tinnitis and it seems much worse than usual.

I bought one of the white noise machines at BrookStone and that has helped me tremendously. At times I could not fall asleep without it.

Just crank up the white noise as loud as you can while still being able to sleep. Eventually the "noise" will slowly go away (or you just won't notice it).

I haven't been to a concert since BEASTIE BOYS Liscensed to I'll in 8th Grade. lol It just came out of the middle of nowhere. I do have a Rockford Fosgate ghetto stereo in my car, but I seriously doubt it's loud enough to cause damage, plus I've had it for a year without any troubles.

Angeleyes, did you see a doctor specifically about your ear, and did he/she make the TINNITUS diagnosis ?

You either have to learn to live with it or you go to a specialist to get treatment, which will likely turn into you having to learn to live with it anyways. Good luck.

Have had tinnitus since I saw a KISS concert 1997... There is no real cure yet but you can learn to live with it. Best advice I can give you is to GO SEE A DOCTOR. There must be an ear-specialist somewhere in your area. Call him/her and book an appointment. After you've talked to a doctor you will feel much better and you will notice the noice much less. The sound in your ear is getting louder when you think on it -> you get stressed -> the sound gets louder -> you think about it even more -> the sound gets even louder and so on. See a doctor, it will take away some of your stress and thoughts on it.

My brother has tinnitus from years of being a drum tech and I've watch it drive him damn near insane at times. Just about everyone he knows has it to varying degrees and no one seems to have a cure. The only thing it seems they can do is learn to recognize what triggers it and try to avoid those situations.

Not on an SSRI.... but thank you... For GFY... everyone has been more than generous with their time.

And no, I DID NOT come to GFY for medical advice, I've seen my family doctor which was NO help to me. I just thought this community was so large, someone else had to have the same thing and it turns out that I am not the only one.

Thanks once again for all of your help! I'm trying the fan/tv/white noise combo tonight for "real" sleep.

you need to see an audiologist
there is one at every costco... go for a free hearing test .. then see an ENt ear nose throat ... that should give you some idea where your hearing stands and how to cope or fix it

My alma mater has developed a promising new treatment which I believe basically involves training your brain to only listen to outside sounds rather than focusing on and amplifying internal sounds.

http://neuromonics.com/ It has a link to local US ear doctors that do it. Hopefully there is one in your neck of the woods.

edit: I think remember you saying you are you in Georgia? If so this is the only place according to the website anyhow

I had something similar about 7 or 8 yrs ago. But it was a constant ringing. Left ear was really bad, it drove me crazy. I thought it was something serious. I couldn't sleep, couldn't think clearly during the day and seemed to effect my memory too. My hearing had also been severely diminished.

Made an appointment at the ENT and turns out that it was packed full of ear wax and junk and whenever my ear itched I would make it worse by using my little finger and over time had accumulated. A normally functioning ear will discharge this but in my case that was not happening. As a rule if you get no earwax out of it periodically than this will just get worse.

Took all of 10 or 15 min to suck it out with a powerful little vacuum pump. My left ear was really bad, so bad in fact that I passed out during the procedure. The ringing did not go away immediately but within 30 mins or so was back to mormal.

My hearing was also tested to se if there was any damage and was fine, no further treatment was needed except to keep it cleaned out.

Since then I have been back every 9-12 mos. for the left ear and each time a decent amount is sucked out but nowhere as bad as the first time.

I have tried the peroxide but I hate it. I've gotten used to the ear drops and they work for a while but eventually I go back and have it cleaned out.

Its not a very expensive procedure about $65-75.

I don't know if this is what you have but you need to see an ENT yesterday. Like others have said if it was caused by extremely loud music or something you may have permanent damage.
Don't mess around and let this ruin your life.
