Choosing the right merchant account newbie

I was looking into starting my own porn subscription site and some business which are high risk by nature. I'm having trouble finding a billing service. I've looked into several merchant account options, but most of them have restrictions against mature content. Do you have any suggestions? I wanted to find out what really counts most when choosing this kind of service provider, is there any particular feature that I should look out for? If you had a wishlist of services/features offered by merchant accounts, what would you include?

Just crossed my mind... how does one actually look for such ? are they adult merchant account providers? adult credit card processors?

p.s. my nick has nothing to do with an existing site

Where are you, or more importantly your company located at (country)? That will determine what billing companies will do business with you. Typically it is extremly difficult to have your own processing for non tangible adult goods (subscriptions). Third party processing is generally the way to go, and each processor will have their requirements for account activation.

Just check some of the processors that posted in this thread already..
CCBill.com
Paycom.net
365billing.com
etc.

Expect to pay between 13-15% for processing on each sale (less depending on volume and lowered chargeback percentage), and $750 for the Visa fee to set up the account.

CCbill is good for starting up, since they have affiliate management software built in. It is somewhat limited, but plenty of successful companies use only CCBill. From that you can use an affiliate management software like NATS from TMM to manage affiliate stats (sales, traffic, etc.) and use multiple billers to cascade the customer from one processor to the next helping to make the sale for your affiliates and yourself.

Welcome to GFY.

Hi there. Don't mean to bust your dreams. But you're in for a rough ride there. Not billing wise since that is essentially quite simple. But since you have to ask you have definitely not done your homework. There's got to be like 100,000+ porn sites out there and most likely the majority of them are using the same 2 or 3 third party billers. The obvious choice would have been to focus on those first.

Honestly, if you don't know the adult business and couldn't even care to conduct a simple study like looking at at least 5-10 of the aforementioned sites you should not even be thinking the thought of venturing into setting up an adult paysite. You will need all the luck in the world to succedd unless you do your homework right. And the little luck there is left you will need to share with at least 20,000 other hopeful startups that don't know what they're getting into either.

That said, I do wish you luck. But hopefully you'll sit down for a moment and think twice about what you asked and what I just wrote above. If you don't see the sense in what I'm telling you, go back to doing whatever it is that you usually do. If you see the sense in it, study, study, study and learn first. Or you will fail.
