Does smart equal money?

I have been called smart, I have been called stupid.

For now I do not know really for myself what the answer is.

However I pose a question.

Does smart = Money?

for the most part, smart means money. But not always... there are plenty of members of Mensa who are broke.
It happens with geniuses for the most part... too busy to actually keep their minds on the target.

It's not your IQ that matters, it's what you do with it that counts.

Nope, I have an average IQ at best. I was 76% in my HS, 2.4GPA in college before I dropped out.

I have done ok.

No, smart does not equal money but it helps. In my experience, it?s all about connections. Dumb as fuck brickheads can make shit loads of moneys as long as they have the connections in order to get a foot in the door.

I will agree with you.
Myself...

I am eccentric, I have no objections to being called so.
I have a problem with reality and often to kept up in my mind with ambitions of visionary things verses action to carry them out.

Inherently I am lazy in a mindset or perspective to accomplish somthing, I am to ahead of some things and by the time I might take action "Its an old idea".

Though if I had money I could pay others to finish the concept.

Not necessarily. One can be smart in many ways other than making money. Some people are very smart when it comes to working with other people. Others are smart when it comes to survival issues. Others are great with ideas but not execution/implementation.

I will subscribe to this concept. Some people are super hero's when it comes to certain things. Infact brilliant.

However...

It does not equal money and is dependent on the spot light to make a break, and then settles in the concept of monetary value.

There's different kinds of smart. Book smart, street smart, biz smart, socially smart (remember the whole Social IQ craze?), artistically smart, and of course, not smart. And there's plenty of smart people with tons of money that are miserable, so even that's just a little piece of the equation.

She seem's to be a smart woman to me.
Her show's and what she say's tend to spark interest.
Yet at the same time doing nothing that benefits mankind as a whole.

So in her case...

Smart = Money.
In my opinion.

I'm sure there is some correlation. You have to be smart enough to recognize opportunities when they come and have your priorities in order.

I don't think intelligence determines how much money you'll make per se. It so happens that most people who are rich are "smart" mainly because they had the means to become educated which usually means they had the money to live in good neighborhoods with good schools, attend private schools, and pay for college.

Like mentioned previously in this thread, there are many different types of "smart." I think a better formula to determine a person's monetary value is:

Brains + Balls = Money

Brains are necessary to network and understand what you're doing in the business world (or whatever field it may be). The balls are a sign of a risk taker, which is also a necessary trait of successful people. If you don't take any risks then you'll end up working in a cubicle crunching numbers or at McDonalds because it is the "safe bet." So pretty much a combination of both gives you the best chances of success in life. Some may become rich without one or either but this is highly unlikely.

By the way AlienQ, according to your formula, you should work on your use of apostrophes (') if you want to = money hahaha.

i know a man that owns the largest Junkyard in Miami. He is not by any means intelligent and even further from Wise as can be. But He has 25 million dollars. He lives off of about 50k a year, has 9 kids and has yet to set up a trust or will for his kids. When he dies the estate tax will dry up a lot of what he has and his children will fight for money that he could easily put away safely for them.
He leaves his equipment out in the rain all day and night and when it rusts he simply replaces it. My dad explained that a little oil on the metal parts would keep them working and he shrugged it off.

I have a relative that is part of the Cancer research program, she's a director and lead scientist and she's by no means wealthy. She drives a Honda civic. She found a cure for cancer in Mice. She's a hero in my eyes.

You meet people every day that work hard and are intelligent individuals that don't take risks becuase they value security. They may never make it rich, but I respect that decision because it's better to keep a paycheck than to risk their childrens' future or their mortgage payment on an idea.

Some suggest that IQ is the best predictor of things like personal income and even the wealth of nations. However, the people who have done this type of work and data collection (Rushton, Jensen, Lynn) also have agendas. So, who knows.

In terms of creating new wealth, timing and to a much lesser extent originality, are a lot more important than intellect. Look at MySpace selling for $580 million when the 'Net is littered with hundreds of earlier attempts, many of them more impressive, to make social networking popular. Come to that, we have many people in this business working far more creatively and yet earning less money than those who got in earlier.

But there is a ceiling above which many entrepreneurs fail to rise and that is when the management of money (and debt) becomes as important, often more important, than the business itself. You do not need to be educated yourself, because you can hire others who are, but it is surprizing how few entrepreneurs cannot make that step, or make it, but are ultimately sidelined from their own businesses.
