Cigar smoking technique...

Ok I took the advice of some people on this board -- I tried a Montecristo and an Arturo Fuente... I liked the flavor of the Montecristo a lot better -- it had about 3 levels to it -- it started out kindof round and smooth and a little sweet -- I can't really describe it better than that (a very original flavor that I enjoyed) -- then it got progressively more spicy and bitter to the point at the end where I started to feel like I needed some tequilla to go w/ the cigar ;p -- the damn Montecriso really taught me to enjoy a cigar -- because it's not very tight and you can really heat that fucker up fast -- and that's the secret I think to enjoy a cigar -- you got to pump some good air through that bitch -- get it nice and hot and get that fucker burning hot! Then you get a real nice batch of flavor and you can blow a lot of it through your nasal passage and get a real nice sensation/taste that's unlike anything you've ever experienced -- besides giving your whole face a nice tingle -- you get a nice relaxing buzz and the laste just lingers there in your mouth... only problem w/ the Montecristo is it seems like it's not dense enough and you have to take an easy on it or you will burn it too hot... or maybe that was just the particular cigar that I smoked...

The A. Fuente seemed to have less flavor -- but it seemed packed a lot tighter -- and it felt nice and heavy -- this cigar is a little more subtle and you can really go to work puffing the shit out of it and it won't fail you and burn too hot -- I really liked this cigar because I feel like I'm getting a better value -- it feels like a cigar w/ more substance -- I just wish it had a little more interesting flavor (odor?) but I am still enjoying this cigar and the buzz was a little nicer I think than the Montecristo...

After you take a few good puffs and get the shit burning -- I like to exhale as far as I can to make sure all the smoke is out -- tense your stomach muscles while you're at it -- this pressure you can create in your chest during the exhale phase I think adds to the buzz and the overall enjoyment of the cigar...

So why do you enjoy cigars? I could be full of shit -- I never took lessons in smoking these fucking things but I sure do enjoy it a lot more than cigarettes which seem to taste like shit to me now...

Well not you obviously -- a lot of people enjoy cigars though... but I don't sell them... so I could give a shit what you think.

Maybe someone will appreciate your mediocre sense of humor...

Anyway here's a more expert opinion on how to judge a cigar -- it seems my criteria holds up to the experts...

It seems like the secret to a good cigar is one that doesn't draw too fast or too slow (ie: good construction) -- but honestly it seems like that's just a matter of personal preference... Personally I'd rather have a hard draw...

"The ash should be relatively firm and get to an inch long without difficulty (except in small ring gauges). A falling ash is not necessarily a sign of a poorly constructed cigar, but, if your cigars develop a firm, even ash while you're smoking, it is an indication that they are well made. And if it happens consistently, your impression will be reinforced. Anyway, it's really annoying to find a cigar ash in your lap, and a consistently flaky, loose ash is a sign of a poorly constructed cigar.

The cigar should have good mouth feel. While it is not recommended to chew the end, the cigar should feel firm and resilient in the mouth. If it does not, if the cigar is soft and mushy, that's another sign of poor construction. It won't feel good either, thus affecting your overall pleasure."

The ash has another good function. It keeps the heat in the Cigar
It works like insulation. I hardly tip off the ash...if it decides to fall off it will....usually you can see clearly when it's time to tip it off
Don't start hammering the cigar in order to get the ash off.
