NATS is great, but isn't there a simpler program?
We have been busy with a program for over two years now and part of the reason we never finished is 1.) SiteDepth sucks, and 2.) NATS is like rocket sience;-)
I mean, I am no dummy, but taking a couple of courses on the phone to be able to understand it is not really high up my agenda. For another program we have written our own stuff and it works great, but I am no programmer so I am sure it could be much nicer, better and packet with more options, without being so damn difficult. Am I right, or is this a typical case of practise makes perfect?

What is the program that so many of the ccbill sponsors use?
like these for example http://www.FelixFlow.com http://www.CheeseFrogFlow.com Seems like a simple enough script.

I wouldn't call it a couple of "courses on the phone to understand it". Some people get it installed and use it without ever asking a question. Others need help above and beyond the training. The training is offered to give value to the product and make sure those using it know how to use it. I don't get how people see that as a bad thing.
If you can't spend 4-5 hours of your time to learn more about how the software powering your business works what are you spending that time on thats more valuable? The training isn't provided becuase the software is sooo complex and soooo hard to understand as a certain competitor of ours seems to like to tell people. It is provided to make sure you know what you're doing and what you can do with it.

That was going to be my statement. NATS and SiteDepth are for two different purposes. Nats = Affiliate management software (stats, billing, links, promo material) SiteDepth = Content (Your sites photos and videos) management software I can see how anything can be intimidating if you don't know anything about it. But after the traiining for NATS by TMM you'll feel much more comfortable. You can also reference http://kb.toomuchmedia.com. One thing that will help is having someone good integrate the Nats templates with your affiliate program design. Let me know if you need someone. I can recommend a couple of good people who can help.

nothing wrong with sitedepth, esp the 4.0 version is very comfy, BUT its not a billing backend like everyone else here already posted.

I totally agree with you John shit you also need some good book keeping software to run your business and I think that will take longer to figure out then NATS. NATS if you choose to use it will be the core of your business and all the transactions that take place. NATS can soo much and with out the training you just wont learn about all its features and capabilities. If you dont want to do cascade billing, geo targeted join pages, advanced member management and all kinds of other great things that make your business grow then I wouldnt go with nats I would just used CCbill or Epochs standard software. Without it you can still be successfull but with it you will achieve so much more |

NATS rocks and if you spend some time understanding all of the information that it provides, you will be more than happy that you did. I am no Rocket Scientist when it comes to using programs and after taking the time to fully understand Nats functions I was very glad that I did. Also Nats allows you more than enough tickets to ask all of the questions you need and Valerie oh Valerie what a gem that girl is always taking the time to make sure you get the answers you need.
We are very happy with NATS especially their Support Team! |

What I'd like about NATS, is some built-in Shortcuts. An AdultElite example, which many other NATS driven sites are similiar..
Login, click Link Codes and presented with a typical NATS form. Generate Link Codes for which? Make a choice.. - Go to Step 2 Choose Linking Point. Make a choice.. - Go to Step 3 Choose your Price Point. Make a choice.. - Go to Step 4 Designate Campaign. Enter something (optional) - Generate Code Now. All those fucking pages of choices just to get your link codes. I'd like to click Link Codes, and immediately be presented with a list of links to use. If I want other options, -then- walk me through the interrogation process. Let's get some Promo Tools now. Damn, NATS interview again. Ok, so I click 'Browse Free Hosted Galleries' Step 1 - Choose program Step 2 - Choose link point Step 3 - Choose price point Step 4 - Designate campaign Step 5 - Choose gallery type Step 6 - Choose by site or niche Step 7 - Choose sites Step 8 - View online or download text file Step 9 - Finally, we're presented with our gallery links. So, I think some Shortcuts would be VERY useful instead of the typical NATS interrogation. I appreciate and enjoy the flexibility involved, but the process is lacking in my opinion.

John, I'm not saying NATS is not good or too complicated for everybody. I was just wondering if there was some like it, but stripped ;-)
And I know SiteDepth is something else entirely, it is just that when you have 200 Gb of content on the server to categorize, it isn't the best of CMS's.

For link codes for example, any relatively new (newer than a few months) install simply has to go to the configuration page and check "SHOW_ALL_LINKCODES". This makes NATS dump all linkcode combinations instead of asking you to pick. Its up to the program owner, the default skin coming with NATS is just a sample, many people do not change the inner workings because they feel the affiliates know it so why change it on them, they are comfortable with it. In the end, they can make it look and ask whatever they want.
