Is it possible to apply 'DIY' DRM protection to Flash FLV Movies?

Hey guys, ive been wonderng about this for a while now. I use Flash streaming on my site which seems the perfect solution for a multi platrform audience. Unlike DRM which is a complete pain in the ass.

So I was thinking if it would be possible to embed some sort of action in the FLV or SWF movie, which could check a URL within the members area for authorisation. Im not Flash expert by any means, but surely something like this must be possible.

By doing this I could offer mt FLV movies as downloads, together with my own flv player and not alienate Mac users like DRM does.

whatcha think?

Sounds quite simple but I think it would prove difficult embedding the users details(or a general login) within the SWF and making it secure.

how about if it just checks a particular URL which is within the members area for a 'key' or some type of authorisation to play the movie. so the login action happens when the URL is requested and not within the swf or flv.

But that means the user would have to enter his user/pass everytime he wanted to view a movie? from a users POV, that sucks.
